Clothing And Textiles In The United States Are Not At The End Of Their Journey.
North Carolina, walnut Bay, June, 29 - --- how do some textile factories in the United States compete with low price developing countries? Please come to the Parkdale Mills's Walnut mill in Walnut Cove, try to throw a bowling ball on the production line here.
Rest assured that your ball will not touch anyone, but you may lose money for the expensive equipment that is smashed.
The factory, which covers an area of nearly 20 thousand square meters, will rotate seven hours a day, 24 hours a day.
Only 71 workers fell in three shifts, but they could produce 680 thousand kilograms of cotton yarn per week.
In the evening shift, there are only four football field factories with only 11 employees on duty.
The secret of keeping the company profitable is to invest in automation equipment continuously, so that fewer skilled workers can produce more cotton yarn, so the price of the cotton yarn produced is low enough to export to Honduras and Dominica Republic, where it is used to make T-shirts such as Canada Gildan Activewear and other big clothing companies.
The 19 year old factory is located in a small town with only 1465 people in the north of North Carolina.
With the latest automation equipment introduced in the factory, the workload of four workers is equivalent to 15 to 20 of the workload of old equipment.
"Not the original equipment is bad, but the technology has been updated," said manager B.B. McGuire. "Without this technology, we will not retain competitiveness.
"
The factory has cut about 40% of its workforce over the past five years, but its output has risen.
The American textile industry may be on the decline as a whole, but the textile factories are not all closed.
According to government statistics, as of May this year, about 410 thousand Americans are still employed in textile and clothing manufacturing industry than in radio and television or electrical manufacturing.
Of course, compared with the 1 million 600 thousand textile and apparel practitioners in 1990, the current number is only 1/4 of that time.
One of the major driving forces for these textile companies to survive and thrive is technology: the company has high speed and highly automated equipment, and the quality and characteristics of the fabrics can not be easily copied by competitors at lower cost.
