China'S Clothing Industry Low Carbon Wind Gradually Rises
Recently, the world natural resources foundation in the World Expo international joint organization staged a low carbon creative fashion show, featuring a series of low carbon creative clothing, bringing cool weather to the hot summer. Let people enjoy the modern life while also paying attention to the environmental protection problems of the clothing industry.
High carbon emissions from garments
Since the Copenhagen conference last year, low carbon economy has become the focus of attention, and the new term "low carbon" has gradually become familiar with the public.
It is no longer the same as in the past that "low carbon" is only related to the government and other departments. It is a matter for the government to consider.
Low carbon life is closely related to every one of us and runs through our daily life.
We should always pay attention to these details, for example, save water, turn off the lights at any time, do not waste paper, take public pport, reduce the use of disposable tableware and disposable plastic bags, etc.
These are obvious everyday actions that can reduce carbon emissions.
But the relationship between clothing and carbon emissions is not well understood by many people.
Many people believe that the link between emissions reduction and clothing is not large, but in fact the opposite is true.
Shen Jie, vice president of the Shanghai clothing association, a designer coordinator who participated in the low carbon creative fashion show, said that a piece of clothing is constantly emitting carbon dioxide and affecting the environment from raw material production, production, pportation, use and disposal.
According to the environmental resource management company, a treaty of 400 grams of polyester pants, assuming that it produces raw materials in Taiwan, made garments in Indonesia, and finally shipped to the United Kingdom for sale.
The life expectancy of the washing machine is two years. The washing machine with 50 degrees of warm water is washed for 92 times. After washing, the dryer is dried, and the average time is two minutes for ironing.
In this way, it consumes about 200 kilowatt hours of energy, equivalent to 47 kilograms of carbon dioxide, and 117 times its own weight.
In contrast, natural fabrics such as cotton and linen are not synthesized from raw materials such as petroleum fiber because of chemical fiber. Therefore, the energy consumed and the pollutants produced are relatively few.
But according to the Research Institute of manufacturing research, University of Cambridge, a 250 gram heavy cotton T-shirt has about 7 kilograms of carbon dioxide in its lifetime, which is 28 times its own weight.
Dressing is the key to environmental protection.
How can a small garment display such amazing data and reduce carbon emissions on clothing?
Experts say that they should try to choose clothes made of natural fabrics instead of chemical fiber clothing. The fabric of hemp is more environmentally friendly than cotton cloth on the choice of fabric.
Research from Melbourne University showed that the impact of cannabis cloth on ecology was 50% less than that of cotton.
Cloth made from bamboo fiber and linen also saves more water and pesticides than cotton cloth in the production process.
Wear more clothes and improve the utilization rate of clothes.
Buying clothes must not only care about the freshness of the individual, but it is a bad habit to throw it away at any time. It will increase the amount of garbage disposal and is not conducive to carbon emission reduction.
Reduce the frequency of washing and wash with hands instead of machine washes.
In our daily life, we should avoid unnecessary laundry washing under the premise of dressing hygiene. It can save water resources and reduce consumption of washing materials, and it is also a small way to reduce carbon emissions.
Old clothes are refurbished or donated to others.
When we feel that a garment loses its use value, do not blindly throw it away, we can try to refurbish it or decorate it, maybe it can re stimulate its value.
Or give it to friends and relatives around it, and let it play its value elsewhere, is it not the best way to make the best of both worlds?
Low carbon clothing is attracting more attention
The industry believes that although the country has not yet issued the clothing industry "carbon emission reduction standards", businesses do not have much demand for clothing low-carbon, but with the deepening of low-carbon concept, low carbon clothing will become a hot spot and new economic growth point of clothing industry.
According to Liu Honggang, director of the design department of fox fairy clothes, in the spring and summer products of the company in 2010, bamboo fiber, soybean (information, market) fiber, milk fiber fabrics and other new environment-friendly fabrics have been widely used in clothing.
According to the introduction, in addition to responding to the call of the state, these low carbon fabrics also have their advantages. Spring and summer clothing especially emphasize the comfort and feel of the fabric, while bamboo fiber, soybean fiber and milk fiber fabrics can meet this requirement.
In Humen, China's clothing production base, low carbon clothing is also gradually rising.
China's "clothing capital" Guangdong Humen town clothing industry hit the "low carbon" brand, low carbon clothing started the pformation and upgrading of clothing engine.
At present, some businesses have asked garment factories to manufacture environment-friendly clothing.
Mr. Zhu, director of Honghui garment factory, said: "some of the businesses that I ordered from our factory this year are required to be environmentally-friendly. They used to be mainly cotton fabrics, and some of them require hemp and some flax in 2010."
Hemp fiber and bamboo fiber, flax and other fabrics are more environmentally friendly than traditional cotton fabrics.
Mr. Zhu said that at present, there are not many merchants who require low carbon raw materials, but with the trend of environmental protection clothing, he estimated that there will be more and more merchants requiring low-carbon raw materials in the future.
Experts say that the 10 years from 2010 to 2020 are the new "golden ten years" development period of China's clothing industry, and China's carbon emissions will gradually decrease. Low carbon clothing will become a hot topic of attention in China's clothing industry.
