Despite the seizure of goods, buyers of the goods continued to import and sell counterfeit goods. A suspect boasted to undercover agents that they could produce any trademark on the product, such as Prada or Louis Vuitton. In the next 2 and a half years, the United States Customs conducted a thorough investigation of the source and sales channels of counterfeit goods, and searched the premises of many shops and suspects in the area, and seized more than 230 thousand products, including goods already delivered to these businesses and the goods being transported.
Businesses involved include L&JFashions, JCTrading Company, NewCWKGiftStore, C&KGifts, and La Bella Boutique. So far, 11 people have been accused of smuggling, operating counterfeit products or conspiracy to run counterfeit products. The defendants will face up to 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of up to 2 million dollars. Apart from fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco Chinatown is also the "worst hit area" for the import and sale of counterfeit goods. It is reported that many well-known brands employ private investigators to assist customs officers in the above actions.
