According to reports from South African media, the minimum wage standard is becoming a new challenge for South African clothing industry.

In fact, South Africa had already stipulated that the statutory minimum weekly wage for South African clothing workers was 324 rand (about 44 US dollars).

But many garment enterprises have always considered this standard to be divorced from reality.

Therefore, in order to survive and develop and make up for the shortage of efficiency and skills, a common practice adopted by enterprises is to distribute below standard wages to employees.

Especially in the relatively backward rural areas, this phenomenon is particularly prominent, and some weekly wages are less than 200 rand (about 27 US dollars).

Recently, the relevant agencies and departments in South Africa have adopted coercive measures to force these enterprises to strictly enforce the statutory standards.

More than 1/3 of South African clothing manufacturers may be forced to close because they can not afford to pay the minimum wage.

This will not only lead to the loss of jobs for about 20 thousand garment workers, but also the economic development of underdeveloped rural areas.
