World Expo has brought unprecedented opportunities to the development of Shanghai Metro: the completion of the 420 km mileage and the construction of 280 stations ahead of schedule, so as to push the operation indicators to a new height.

Within 6 months, the Shanghai Metro co operated more than 1 billion 50 million passengers, equivalent to about 50 times the total population of Shanghai, and 5 million 780 thousand passenger trips per day, an increase of more than 17% compared with that before the Expo.

Driven by the high popularity of the Expo, there were 16 times of the highest daily passenger flow in Shanghai subway during World Expo. In May 21st, the first time exceeded 6 million passengers in May 21st. In September 30th, it broke through 7 million passengers in one attempt. During the whole of World Expo, the total number of trains running on the Shanghai metro network was about 885 thousand times, with an average of more than 4800 trips per day, with a total operating mileage of 152 million vehicles. If it were calculated in accordance with the average 6 train formation, it would be equivalent to 3974 cycles around the earth.
