The successful promotion of this project has brought vinylon back to the ranks of fiber, conquered some "soft rib" of vinylon, expanded its application field, enhanced the technological content of products, injected new vitality into the development of Vinylon Industry, and provided an ideal fabric for tooling manufacturers. We have invited the first adult of the high performance polyvinyl alcohol and its textile development project, Dr. Shi Meiwu, general post armament equipment research institute, to talk about how he made vinylon become the ideal and durable wearable fabric.

Moderator: Dr. Shi, vinylon fiber is soft and comfortable, suitable. Make clothes But the drawback is that dyeing and wrinkle resistance are poor. How do you improve it and find its suitable use?

Shi Meiwu: any fiber has its advantages and disadvantages. As a kind of fiber, its defects may be more valued by engineers and technicians, so that we can make good use of these materials. The disadvantage of vinylon is that the dyeing effect is not too bright, and the wrinkle resistance is not very good. In the 60s of last century, vinylon was developed as the first synthetic fiber in the country to ease grain and cotton disputes. In 70s, the people also wore vinylon or cotton clothing, because its appearance (color, crisp degree) was not ideal enough, and was eventually eliminated by the later development of polyester. Vinylon was gradually driven out of the field of fiber. In the past few years, the army also used the cotton bed sheets, which were later replaced by polyester cotton sheets.

The use of vinylon is slowly fixed in cement reinforcing fibers, water-soluble fibers, special reinforced fibers for money and securities, etc. There are also high strength fibers made from jelly spinning and other methods abroad, with a strength of 15cN/dtex. These special vinylon can not be used as conventional fiber varieties. For example, the strength of cement reinforced vinylon can reach more than 10cN/dtex, but it is not resistant to hot water, and can not withstand dyeing and finishing.

However, any material has its proper use. It can also find suitable use occasions for fibers that are not bright enough and are not very smooth. For example, work clothes, military armed police training clothes, and so on, do not necessarily need a special bright appearance. Besides, vinylon has many advantages.

Host: what are the advantages of vinylon?

Shi Meiwu: the main advantages of vinylon are: vinylon is likely to become a very strong fiber in ordinary textile fibers. Due to the theoretical strength of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), it is second only to the para aramid fiber (the typical variety is the familiar Kevlar fiber, making the bulletproof vest fiber, but it is a special fiber, the price is high). Although vinylon needs to seal off many hydroxyl groups of PVA to form polyvinyl formal, it still has high strength. Because PVA has a large number of hydroxyl groups, it still has many hydroxyl groups after making vinylon, and has good water absorption and comfort. It can be said that the hygroscopicity and comfort of synthetic fiber are the closest to cotton fiber. Vinylon is a good industrial foundation in our country. There were more than 10 vinylon factories in China. In the past few years, several soybean protein fiber factories were built. In essence, it was also a vinylon plant. Therefore, it had a good industrial foundation and the new factory equipment condition was better. Vinylon resources are abundant and the cost is relatively low. After making functional vinylon, it has a higher cost performance.

Ideal fiber for tooling

Moderator: any fiber variety has its application. What kind of textile do you think is best suitable for vinylon?

Shi Meiwu: according to its advantages and disadvantages, it is obvious that vinylon is especially suitable for making tooling fabrics. Because the fabric needs no special bright and bright colors and no special appearance. It can also be used to blend with other fibers and use special dyeing and finishing processes to achieve the chromatographic, color depth, gloss and crisp wrinkle resistance of the tooling fabrics. Of course, it means high strength vinylon with higher strength, wear resistance and dimensional stability, which is suitable for the use of tooling.

Moderator: before the introduction of vinylon fabric, what fibers are commonly used in the world for tooling fabrics?

Shi Meiwu: the tooling fabric used here refers to the ordinary work clothes, which are used in the working environment of general industrial and mining enterprises, which are used to resist friction and collision, to prevent oil contamination, and to protect the human body in general, including combat training clothing worn by military and police daily, rather than protective clothing fabrics with special functions (such as bulletproof, fire prevention, anti-virus, etc.).

Many foreign countries use polyamide and cotton blended fabrics as ordinary work clothes, because nylon is more wearable, and the presence of cotton fibers can provide hygroscopicity and comfort. Because nylon resources are relatively scarce in China, polyester cotton blended fabrics are widely used. In the more high-end use occasions, there is also the use of inverted proportion polyester cotton, that is, CVC fabric, whose cotton content is higher than that of polyester and has better comfort. Cotton is also used on individual occasions. Our army's original training clothing fabric is also a polyester / cotton 65/35 blended fabric. In order to improve its strength and wear resistance, the reinforcing bar is woven into the fabric with polyester filament along the warp and weft direction, but the fastness can not meet the requirements.

Moderator: it is understood that the project has already trial production of more than 40 batches, nearly 10 specifications of yarn. What are the technical requirements of spinning yarns and what kind of cotton mills can spin them?

Shi Meiwu: the main difficulty of this project is fiber manufacturing. There are some tricks in spinning, but it is not difficult. There are no new requirements on hardware facilities. Only in process design, the characteristics of vinylon should be taken into consideration, and some adjustment can be made on the process parameters, so that it can be successfully produced. The yarn containing high strength polyvinylon has produced tens of thousands of tons, and there is no big technical problem. Ordinary cotton mills should be able to produce yarn containing high strength vinylon. There are also stockings factories to purchase high-strength vinylon, which is said to make use of the characteristics of high strength vinylon wear-resistant, producing socks, especially as socks for outdoor sports. According to the feedback information, it is very successful.

Moderator: on the variety of fabrics, the typical product launched by the project is polyester / cotton / cotton ratio 60/20/20, 30S, which can be used for military and police training fabrics in summer and winter. What are the technical aspects of fabric production that need attention?

Shi Meiwu: in the process of fabric production, we should consider the requirements of work clothes all in all. As a work clothing fabric, we should first start with the use of fastness to pursue the protection of the human body (for example, soldiers can climb up the tall building by hand, or slide down the wall from the high building. At this time, besides the skills and physical strength of the fighters, it mainly depends on the high strength and wear resistance of the clothing. If it is not strong enough, the soldier will be injured. Second is to provide good transparency and comfort. Therefore, it is advisable to adopt roving's low density design method, taking into account both strength and permeability. In dyeing and finishing, it is necessary to prevent rapid drying in wet condition and avoid the phenomenon of hard feeling. Under the appropriate dyeing and finishing process, vinylon fabric can still get a soft handle. At the same time, high strength vinylon fabric can still carry out functional finishing such as oil and water repellent, easy decontamination, antistatic and so on.

There are 60 billion yuan market space in China.

Moderator: compared with traditional tooling fabrics, what advantages do they have in price performance, and what is the market space at home and abroad?

Shi Meiwu: in terms of performance, the strength of our high-strength polyvinylon can reach 7.7 ~ 8.0cN/dtex. Even a small amount of mixing can greatly improve the strength and wear resistance of the fabric. I have made 20% high strength polyvinylon fabrics, and the number of times of grinding resistance has reached more than 5000 times. The qualified indexes of the army's original training clothes are only 125 times. The fabric with a weight of about 200g per square meter can reach 1400 * 1000N level.

My dyeing and Finishing Engineer once boasted that no matter what fabric could be torn open without hand, but in the face of our research and development of high strength polyvinylon military fabrics, the dyeing and finishing engineers with high popularity gave up.

In terms of comfort, taking the military training clothes as an example, compared with the old and new varieties, the air permeability and moisture permeability of the fabrics were improved under the weight of square Mick. In addition, we have also studied and realized the new dyeing and finishing technology, so that the fabric can withstand washing at 95 degrees and the color fastness is still up to the requirement. This kind of performance can enable the tooling fabric to adapt to the operation requirements of foreign tooling: the foreign tooling is leased from the user to the professional tooling service company, and the washing service is also undertaken by the tooling service company. Overalls are not personal goods abroad, but are used in turn. Therefore, they must have high temperature resistance.

As for the domestic tooling market, the industries needing to wear ordinary work clothes are industries such as extractive industry, manufacturing, tap water, electricity, steam, hot water, gas, construction, forestry, water conservancy, transportation, post, warehousing and so on, including the army, the armed police and the public security. According to statistics, about 300 million of the population needs to wear work clothes to work. According to the annual cost of tooling for 200 yuan per person, the market will have an output value of 60 billion yuan. Obviously, the foreign market will be bigger.

At present, the use of high strength polyvinylon as a wearable functional material for the production of tooling fabrics has been applied to the military armed police training clothing, some oil field coal mine work clothes, and some of the fabrics specially developed for foreign tooling have been sold to the European market.
