Zhejiang Legislation Strictly Prohibits Public Information Units From Selling Personal Information.

Reporters on the 17 day from the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee held a press conference to understand that the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress passed a local law and regulations pointed out that the financial, telecommunications and other public information units, and strictly prohibit the sale of personal information.

The regulation has been implemented since January 1, 2011.

In recent years, it is not uncommon for individuals to find their information leaked. For example, just buying a car, many insurance companies call to promote insurance; when a company has just registered, they often receive telephone calls from some training companies to provide training services.

The personal information of these systems can only be owned by some key institutions.

According to the "Regulations on the promotion of information technology in Zhejiang" to be implemented, financial, insurance, telecommunications, water supply, power supply, gas supply, hospitals, property, real estate agents and other public information units should not sell or otherwise provide information to citizens, legal persons and other organizations in the process of providing services, so as to protect the public's information security.

Ding Zunian, Deputy Secretary General of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress, said that according to this law, no unit or individual can illegally obtain information from citizens, legal persons and other organizations.

It is understood that this Ordinance also stipulates that public utilities such as water supply, power supply, gas supply and Telecommunications should establish and improve the information service system, and carry out relevant business applications, information inquiry, payment and appointment registration through information technology.
