Since the EU launched anti-dumping duties in 2006, the export volume of AOKANG, a well-known domestic shoe manufacturer, has dropped sharply from 30% to 10% - 20%.
According to the statistics of China Leather Association, in 2006, the EU imported 2 billion 100 million pairs of shoes (85% of total sales), of which 1 billion 490 million were produced in China, after anti-dumping (the highest tax rate was 16.5%), and the number of shoes imported from China dropped by 15%.
In the past two years, the rate of decline continued to increase.
Opportunities and challenges.
Although the European Commission announced the abolition of anti-dumping duties in the announcement, it also announced that it would closely monitor the export of Chinese and Vietnamese leather shoes to the European Union for a year, and if necessary, appropriate measures would be taken promptly.

Wei Yafei, director of the footwear association of China Leather Association, said that although the EU may cancel anti-dumping duties, the other side is seeking control measures including trade subsidies, market access and intellectual property rights. Chinese shoe enterprises must seriously study the EU's laws and regulations on leather shoes export, standardize their own business practices, comply with industry rules, and create a favorable environment for the export of Chinese shoe enterprises.
Faced with increasingly stringent EU import standards, the old shoe export model based on low price will only reset the export barriers to domestic shoe enterprises, and some shoe companies have begun to revisit new export models.
Wang Zhentao, President of AOKANG group, said that enterprises will take the initiative to go out, establish R & D, procurement centers abroad, acquire international brands, etc., and strengthen cooperation and exchanges with international shoe enterprises to achieve win-win development. This is the real solution to foreign trade friction.
Reporters learned that AOKANG's overseas R & D institutions are playing a strong technological advantage, and its cooperation with internationally renowned shoe companies has also largely avoided the emergence of trade frictions.

And the successful experience of AOKANG has attracted many Wenzhou shoe companies to follow suit. They have improved their product development and brand value, optimized the structure of export products, and standardized the trade behavior of enterprises.
"We are further communicating with the EU footwear industry and hope to re-enter the EU market through a new export mode through cooperation."

And as domestic shoe companies adjust their export models, the shoe market orders in the international market are growing rapidly.
What kind of export mode will be adopted? The shoe industry will be tested again.
According to the General Administration of customs statistics, in January this year, China's shoes exported 4 billion 110 million US dollars, up 39.2% over the same period last year.
Wei Yafei suggested that after the EU's anti-dumping duty was suspended at the end of March, the EU leather shoes export enterprises must control the export volume, extend the export period, and try to avoid concentrated exports in the 4 to June 2011.
Diversified market is more robust
The EU's cancellation of anti-dumping duties on leather shoes is no doubt a "burden reduction" for export enterprises, but also a reminder to domestic shoe enterprises: we should intensify efforts to develop new markets and change the disadvantages of export dependence.
It is understood that AOKANG has increased its pioneering efforts in the North American market such as the United States and Canada. Its growth rate for export in the North American market has remained above 30%, and Egypt has also opened up a cold market.
Similarly, the EU is also an important export market for Kangnai footwear, accounting for 10% of Kangnai's total exports. The EU's anti-dumping duties have a great impact on Kangnai's OEM products overseas.
In this regard, Kangnai took timely measures to circumvent and opened up new export markets such as South America, East Asia, Central Asia and Australia, so that the export business maintained a 45% growth rate.
"Trade barriers will devastate the export of enterprises in a single market. Domestic shoe companies should learn from the EU's experience and lessons of anti-dumping against China's leather shoes, speed up the pformation of export direction, shift exports to other emerging countries and regions, or turn export into domestic sales."
The industry believes that only multiple markets can win more room for enterprises to make China's footwear export more stable.
