Cui Tiankai said that the Sino US strategic and economic dialogue mechanism is an important measure for the two sides to push forward the development of Sino US relations in the new era. Since the two heads of state jointly advocated the establishment of the mechanism in April 2009, the two sides have successively worked on this mechanism.

Cui Tiankai said that the current Sino US relations are developing well. In January this year, President Hu Jintao made a state visit to the United States. The two heads of state reached an important consensus on the Sino US partnership of mutual respect and mutual benefit. The two sides issued the Sino US joint statement, pointing out the direction for the development of Sino US relations at the next stage.

At the same time, new and profound changes have taken place in the international situation, and new problems and new challenges are emerging.

Under this situation, a good third round of Sino US strategic and economic dialogue is of great significance to actively implement the important consensus of the heads of state of the two presidents during the visit of President Hu Jintao, to promote the building of Sino US cooperative partnership, to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the two sides on international and regional issues, and to promote world peace, stability and development.

A good Sino US relationship is not only in the common interests of China and the United States, but also the common expectation of the international community.

Cui Tiankai said that during the strategic dialogue under the framework of the third round of the Sino US strategic and economic dialogue, the two sides will conduct in-depth discussions on issues such as building Sino US cooperative partnership, enhancing strategic mutual trust, and properly handling sensitive issues, and the coordination and cooperation between China and the US in the Asia Pacific region and the two countries in international and regional issues and global issues.

The relevant departments of the two countries will hold a number of counterpart consultations on issues such as peacekeeping, law enforcement cooperation and climate change. The two sides will hold the first Sino US strategic security dialogue during the strategic dialogue.

Zhu Guangyao said that the most important purpose of the economic dialogue under the framework of the Sino US strategic and economic dialogue is to implement the economic agenda of the Sino US joint declaration reached at the beginning of President Hu Jintao's visit to the United States at the beginning of the year, and push forward the steady development of Sino US economic relations.

Zhu Guangyao said that the theme of the economic dialogue was "building a comprehensive and mutually beneficial Sino US economic partnership", as agreed by the two sides.

Around this theme, the two sides will discuss the following topics: first, promoting trade and investment cooperation; two, improving the financial system and strengthening financial supervision; three, promoting structural adjustment and pformation of development mode; and four, promoting the strong, sustainable and balanced growth of the economy.

Through these discussions, we hope to promote sustained and stable recovery of the global economy, reduce global economic imbalances and promote the reform of the international monetary system.
