LAN Jewelry Founder Yang Lan: Hard, But Not Bitter Heart.

No matter what definition is used to interpret successful women, Yang Lan is undoubtedly one of them. On behalf of China's bid for the Olympic Games, Celion and Dion jointly founded the first high-end custom jewelry brand LAN jewelry in China, and served as creative director; signed the CAA, the largest brokerage company in the United States; became the first ambassador appointed by the United Nations Children's Fund Office in China; the 2010 Ambassador of World Expo, Shanghai; and the host of the two program of "green influence" and "women of the world". 40 years old does not mean aging and being outdated. For Yang Lan, she seems omnipotent. And she defines herself as a person who lives by asking questions.

Asking questions for a living

"I am a person who lives by asking questions. Hard, but the heart is not bitter.

In a supplementary interview, Yang Lan's voice was even more husky than when she first saw her new book in Beijing. She unwittingly talked about her vocal nodules, "taking medicine, but it doesn't hurt." I was told not to interview and stop talking, but I couldn't do it. Yang Lan said frankly that he is not like many of his peers who are born in broadcasting and hosting. He will not use his voice correctly. But some people say that no broadcasting room is natural.

From 30 to 40, she gave the most creative 10 years of women to the interview with Yang Lan. Clinton, Hilary, Soros, Princess Anne, Faye Wong... More than 500 heavyweight guests, more or less, have opened up a part of their world. She would ask Zhang Haidi: if you see God, will you complain to him, why do you make me like this? When interviewed Faye Wong, the first question was: why do we feel nervous today? "I just want to open up a world with one question. The world may be in the cultural sense, maybe in the sense of national boundaries, and maybe in the industry sense. It can also be a spiritual world.

Reporter: when I face heavyweight guests, I sometimes worry that the problem is too plain and naive. Have you ever had such worries? How do you solve it?

Yang Lan: simple questions are better than complex ones. When I first started work, I found that most of the questions asked by TV reporters were in a single way. I am not satisfied with that kind of question, I hope it is more professional and targeted. For example, when facing politicians, they will consider more about the state and habits, and ask more professional and in-depth questions, which is also a respect for the audience, which will stimulate his conversation. To do homework for interviews, after a lot of reading and rounds of discussions by our team, I finally choose to return to simple questions, instead of deliberately pursuing professional terms, but to make more people understand each other.

Reporter: it was my first close contact with you that day. Your delicate makeup is slightly worn away, but it never seems to lose vitality.

Yang Lan: I am an energetic person. The day before you saw me, I just came back from a business trip. I was a little nervous. But I am in excellent health. I sleep 8 hours a day, my appetite is good, and I play tennis two times a week. In every country, I also love to eat great food, consume too much and replenish it. I don't think that work is expenditure but a balance. Doing what you love to do is more positive.

Reporter: some people say that your choice of each life node is very successful. Do you feel that you have made the decision of regret now, do you have any regretful choice?

Yang Lan: (laughter) actually there are many, mainly the time is too long, you also forget, I soon forget. For example, if you want to interview a guest, they say that they agree to Chen Weihong's program and do not agree with my program. I feel frustrated.

From 2000 to 2004, sunshine satellite TV is the biggest rise and fall of life, no matter whether it rises or falls, it is very dramatic. It's a very big challenge for me. I once said this experience in Zhu Jun's program. After several years, I didn't want to mention it. I felt very miserable and felt very defeated. Now I can mention it because I can face myself. I didn't think it was as smooth as I thought. I don't regret it. When I was young, I refused to risk my dream. I didn't want to make a mistake. This youth is too pale. What's the point? When you are forty or fifty years old, you can't afford to lose. There was nothing to regret, but on the contrary, I was very glad that I followed my heart's desire. Through such a great life setback, I have a better understanding of myself. In your most difficult times, there are many temptations, there are many shortcuts, I still want to take a safe road. To do your own program is a process of self discovery. This is a very important process.

Reporter: how to describe your current work and life status, "when I have reached the peak?"

Yang Lan: don't say that. Life is unpredictable. I am a student who asks questions. It opens up a bigger world for me, and life is short. I hope it is full and creative, and I am lucky enough to be able to do what I love and hope to keep doing it. That's all. Those who do not know me will describe me with success and peak. Everyone struggles at different levels. Work is hard, but I love it and feel worthwhile, so I often say that I am hardworking, but my heart is not bitter. {page_break}

"When a person decides to leave the bed and sleep comfortably on a stone, he has already gotten rid of some inertia and brought many possibilities. One day, the stone will also leave his temperature.

My favorite question in asking the world is who can sleep on stones. When I told her, Yang Lan answered my questions in her own way. She talked about how she interviewed Buffett, the son of the stock god, and how to choose his own way under his father's reputation. Yang Lan has emphasized several times to do what she likes to do, which is rare in her words.

In her preface to the new book, she said, "don't be a model hero, be real yourself". But in life and in the workplace, it is not easy to be real. The bottom line, truth, compromise, persistence and love are the words Yang Lan used most when speaking of "success". For her, choosing to sleep on stones and choosing what kind of stones does not seem to be entangled.

Interviewer: I like the metaphor in your book sleeping on stones.

Yang Lan: This is a personal choice. Simmons is comfortable, of course, but things do not start comfortably. First of all, I know the stones I like, and I hope I have enthusiasm and creativity. From the CCTV system, it is not comfortable to become an individual and run an enterprise. When you are in it, you can not see the outside world. A tree on the high mountain is only caught by the wind and rain.

Reporter: adapted to stone, choose a suitable stone. What kind of person are you?

Yang Lan: people need to adjust and compromise, but it is not easy to stick to the bottom line. Faced with difficulties, we can only work harder because there is no way out. Sometimes it will be entangled in the topic selection, the interview is not enough, or they are not ready, we must strive to achieve the greatest possible. We should not be too strict with the perfect subjects, environment, etc.

It is not easy and requires a lot of courage to be able to maintain personal traits in a particular environment like Zhang Haidi. I try not to say anything against my heart, and do what I love to do, even if I compromise, there is a bottom line.

Interviewer: you interviewed many successful people. What are their characteristics?

Yang Lan: I think the definition of success in modern society is too narrow. The success I understand is to be yourself and express the real desire. It is meaningless for me to be in a high position if I want to be flatter and against my heart every day.

This is an era of obsession and persistence in the word "success". Even when I was in primary school, I was asked by a primary school student, "aunt Yang Lan, how can we succeed? From old to small, we always think about success." When I first started the program, I also felt that I was a successful person who interviewed people from all walks of life. Later, the definition of success was increasingly questioned, questioned and completely different. So in the preface, I wrote that I think success is that you can be yourself and be better yourself. This is the highest sense of success. If you can bring positive changes to the people around you, it's even more amazing.

These successful people in traditional sense are all the same to me. They overcome a lot of things, keep warm, simple, curious and so on, and those who are calculating, sophisticated and calculating are hard to achieve the success that I define. It's easier to be successful with a passion and a relatively simple mindset.

As a woman

"I believe happiness depends on luck, but more on ability: the ability to dream, the ability to create, the ability to feel, and the ability to share. In short, the three word: happiness. The happiness I want is a rich and valuable life, an emotional world full of love and warmth. Please don't let me choose.

Whenever I describe her with "perfection", Yang Lan is always cautious. "I am not smart enough to say that I am perfect." Even if the schedule is always full, but every time Yang Lan comes out, he always has elegant air and elegant hair, and his hair is not messy. Although not deliberately mentioned husband Wu Zheng, but a few words, can appreciate his influence on Yang Lan. At home, the two men call each other the old man and the old woman. Why do few reporters ask men about this problem? Do men need to balance their careers and family? Yang Lan's interview focuses on women leaders in different countries, and their "success" and "growth" show different choices. "The key is, what kind of stereotype do we need to break through, is it a competition model for male reproduction, or a guilty conscience in the mindset of a good wife and loving mother?" Yang Lan questioned.

Reporter: I've never seen you behave in a perfect way.

Yang Lan: I belong to the more rational kind of women.

Reporter: your label is elegant and intelligent. Is it a perfect woman?

Yang Lan: (laughs) those who say this do not understand me. I am very hard. I think I am not smart enough. If it's smart enough, it won't be so hard. Maybe it will be a little easier to play golf and enjoy life. I can feel my personal limitations. Just like when I arrived in CCTV, the director said that I was not beautiful enough and could only work harder from other aspects. The same is true for enterprises. I do not have a natural business sense.

Reporter: what is your ideal living status?

Yang Lan: I do not need to be so busy as I am now. I hope my voice can get enough rest and not be so husky. There is indeed a sense of involuntary feeling that every day comes and rushing to various kinds of things. Some are for themselves, some for friends, and others for companies. In the next ten years, am I going to enter a more free and idle state? It is a dream to slow down the pace.

Reporter: are we successful now and still have dreams? Can you share with us?

Yang Lan: in April 2009, after interviewing Juliet Binoche, a French pop star, she asked me a question: "what is your mystery?" my answer is: "what my children will be like when they grow up, this is the mystery I most want to know." Now a pair of children grow up healthily, and they are on the track too. If there is a wish, now the program and the company has been raising the influence of my personal brand, hoping to strengthen the construction of the team.
