Textile Science and engineering is ranked first in second.

Founded in 1952, it is an important base for training high-level personnel and scientific and technological innovation of textile and clothing in China.

There are three undergraduate majors in textile engineering, fashion design and engineering, light chemical engineering.

Textile Science and engineering discipline is the key construction discipline of the national "211 Project" and the key subject of Jiangsu province. It ranked second in the first class assessment in 2008.

At present, there are more than 1500 full-time undergraduate students and more than 250 PhD students.

The faculty is strong, with a group of famous professors and academically active young and middle-aged academics with rigorous scholarship, profound attainments, outstanding scientific research achievements.

There are 105 full-time teachers, including 1 professors and professors of Changjiang Scholars, 22 professors, 45 associate professors, 13 doctoral tutors and 38 master's tutors.

The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council has 1 members of the disciplinary evaluation group, 3 of the special allowance of the State Council, 2 of the outstanding talents of the Ministry of education in the new century, 1 of the second levels of the 333 projects in Jiangsu Province, 3 of third level candidates, and 2 of the teaching masters in Jiangsu.

High quality and high level teaching staff have laid a solid foundation for high-level personnel training and knowledge innovation.

The Institute has 2 doctoral programs in textile engineering and pulp and paper engineering, and 3 master's degrees in textile engineering, clothing design and engineering, pulp and paper engineering, textile engineering post doctoral mobile station, and 25000m2's experimental building.

It has four key laboratories, namely, the Key Laboratory of eco textile Ministry of education, the engineering research center of warp knitting technology ministry of education, the textile science and Engineering Research Center, the China pulp and textile industry association pulp testing center, the Han nationality folk costume studio, and the ecological textile technology, functional textile materials, digital textile technology, clothing culture and Modern Clothing Technology Research Institute, sixteen research laboratories and five undergraduate teaching laboratories.

A well qualified base for undergraduate and postgraduate education and scientific research has been built.

The Institute's scientific research is closely related to the needs and development of the industry, and attaches importance to cross discipline. It has already formed a batch of achievements that produce significant economic benefits and have significant social impact.

In recent years, it has undertaken 5 national "863 projects", 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 3 National "11th Five-Year" science and technology support projects, 32 provincial and ministerial level projects, and 300 enterprise commissioned projects, with an average annual research fund exceeding 30 million yuan.

More than thirty awards have been awarded to provincial Ministry of education and achievements in science and technology.

The Institute has made outstanding achievements in discipline construction and teaching research.

Textile engineering was appraised as a key discipline in Jiangsu Province, a national specialty specialty construction point and a Jiangsu brand specialty. The light chemical engineering project was awarded the brand specialty of Jiangsu Province, and the garment design and engineering were rated as the characteristic specialty of Jiangsu province.

In recent years, the Institute has undertaken 3 teaching reform projects in Jiangsu Province, won the first prize of 2 outstanding teaching achievements in Jiangsu, and 1 other two awards. It has completed 5 state-level excellent multimedia courseware, 2 state-level top-quality courses, 1 National Bilingual demonstration courses, 3 provincial quality courses, and 11 school level quality courses.

Of the more than 30 textbooks compiled in recent years, 9 were selected as excellent teaching materials at the provincial level, and 3 were included in the national "11th Five-Year plan" teaching materials.

More than 1400 academic papers have been published, of which more than 200 have been retrieved from three major papers, and more than 200 national invention patents have been applied and authorized.

The Academy attaches great importance to international academic exchanges and cooperation.

In recent years, Fifth International Conferences on textile biotechnology, international dress culture and costume design have been held.

It has established good academic exchanges and cooperation with internationally renowned universities, institutions and companies such as North Carolina State University, University of California, Davies, Lewis, Anna University, Saji Ari, North Carolina State University, University of Manchester, UK, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Carle, Meyer group and the British coloring Association.

The Institute also accepts foreign students from countries such as Korea and Taiwan.

In recent years, by constantly summarizing and condensing, the school has formed the advantages of the industrial chain discipline cluster, which integrates textile engineering, light chemical engineering, clothing design and engineering, and highlights the characteristics of high-quality compound innovative talents training, and the quality of personnel training has been well received by all sectors of the society.

Since 2003, engineering students have won more than 30 times in the national "Challenge Cup" extracurricular academic science and technology competition, the national entrepreneurship design competition, provincial and municipal discipline competitions, and art students have won hundreds of people in provincial and industrial competitions, and nearly 100 academic papers have been published by undergraduates.

Graduate education has also yielded fruitful results. Since 2005, postgraduates have published more than 700 papers in various academic journals and academic conferences at home and abroad, and applied for and authorized nearly 100 national invention patents.

The college graduates are well respected and welcomed by the employing units at home and abroad because of their comprehensive quality, solid foundation theory, strong hands-on ability, wide knowledge and independent working ability. They play the role of bone drying in the fields of teaching, scientific research, management, consultation, products and market development.

Students are all over universities, research institutes, state organs, pnational corporations and foreign-funded enterprises.

In recent five years, the employment rate of textile college graduates is more than 98%.
