Central Academy of Drama is a directly affiliated institution of the Ministry of education. It is the highest institution of Chinese drama education. It is the headquarters of the Asian drama education research center, and is the base of the international drama academy Union international student drama festival.

The history of Central Academy of Drama can be traced back to the Lu Xun Institute of art in Yanan, founded in April 10, 1938. It has a history of more than 70 years, during which it has gone through third parts of the College of Arts and literature of North China United University and North China University, and Nanjing national drama academy has merged into it.

In December 1949, Central Academy of Drama was officially launched. In April 2, 1950, the founding ceremony of the Central Academy of Drama was officially convened. Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the title of the school by herself.

Stage art department

The Department of stage art mainly trains professionals in drama, film and television art design.

The stage art department requires students to have good artistic sensibility, appreciation ability and solid foundation of art.

The stage art department has a set of professional courses and a complete set of courses. Every professional has formed a reasonable curriculum structure of professional subject, professional technology course and professional history course.

There are five teaching and research departments in the stage art department. It trains six professional talents for stage, film, television and other stage performing departments, including stage design, stage lighting design, stage costume design, stage make-up design, stage painting design and stage management.

The teaching level of stage art department is mainly undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

There are 163 undergraduates and 14 master's degree students in the stage art department.

The stage art department graduates are talented, and in the current stage art and related fields, the graduates of stage art department occupy a major proportion.

The Department of stage art has attached importance to international exchanges. Since 80s, it has held ten exhibitions jointly with the Japanese drama education circles. It has hosted lectures and exchange activities of stage artists in a dozen countries such as the United States, Japan, Sweden, Canada and so on. Teachers have visited more than 50 people. In 1994, it successfully hosted the international stage art organization meeting committee from 14 countries and 30 delegates, and the 1994 Beijing international stage art seminar.
