"It's either simple or complex."
Walking into Kong Pei Ning's studio is a very simple little house. There are 4 people in his team now, and the design and the edition must depend on him. Although the team is small, it is busy every day to create amazing designs.
Q: talk about the recent spring and summer series.
A: this series is called mirage, the source of inspiration is Compendium of Materia Medica. Female plus Male money The series has about 40 to 50 designs. The series is light and elegant in color and fabric, forming a mirage.
Q: very few designers do men's or women's wear. Are you a special case?
A: Women's clothing must be better than men's clothing in the market. Maybe I want to take care of myself. My men's clothing is also very few at present, less than a series of 1/3.
Q: yours. Clothing positioning And the specific style?
A: my design is especially two-sided, either very simple or complex to the extreme. After customer feedback and a period of running in, my women's dress is relatively mature, with the main age group at around 35 years old. Now the girls are very dared to wear ah, this season to do a few transparent design, I began to drum drums said, "anyone can accept it," but later I found that the degree of acceptance I underestimated. {page_break}
Q: will the fashion week trend be taken into account when designing?
A: I will try to avoid much impact, but no matter what it is, I will not. After all, fashion trends are still being led by Europe and the United States. Customers will also be influenced by this trend when they choose. It is necessary to take care of the market.
Q: what is the sales status of the brand now?
A: I started to make a brand when I graduated last year. My clothes are sold by Dong Liang and BNC, a designer integration shop in Beijing. Sales at the beginning are particularly high and low, but it has begun to stabilize after the end of this year. As for income, to be honest, it is good to be fair. I think other designers are all alike. Because clothes need to be run, they will have to invest in new product development just after making a profit. But the fact that most of our designers are getting better and better is something I feel.
"Don't rely on design to have enough to eat."
Just like a group of Post-80 independent designers like Kong Peining, it seems that they are all very popular. The media frequently report that stars love them, but no one can stand up and say that they really occupy the market and earn money. Most of them are not supported by their parents. They may not even be able to afford the studio rent.
How does Q: create its own brand?
A: planned it before graduation, and then did it in a logical way. When I was in my sophomore year, I thought I was not fit for work. I don't like making other people's ideas. I have too many ideas to finish. Compared with those who want to start a business but have not implemented it, I think I am very strong in action.
Q: is it a brand created with others?
A: I didn't ask anyone else, because the family conditions were OK, so my parents paid for it.
Q: does your family have any influence on your clothing hobby?
A: I have more influence from my grandmother and my mother. My grandmother especially changes clothes. My mother could make clothes when she was young. My parents have been very supportive of me. My mother wanted to cultivate my hobbies and tried many kinds of things when I was little. Later I found that I loved drawing, and I changed from painting to fashion design. And my dad thought that as long as I chose it, I should stick to it and be responsible for myself.
Q: many people say that today's designers are rich in the two generation, or else they can't do it.
A: actually, it's not profitable. If you really want to eat enough, you can't do that. If my mother doesn't pay rent for me, I don't even have any place to live. I guess the designers I know don't make money either. My parents were in finance, and they didn't point out that I was making money.
Q: did you ever think about opening a shop?
A: this form of cooperation with the consignment shop is more convenient. We don't have to worry about sales, but that's how I'm tired now. I work overtime every night, not Saturday or Sunday. Now it's not urgent to start a shop. Take it easy.
"Independent design circles for these people"
In this newly developed independent design circle, most people know each other. They grew up together with their classmates and friends. For example, Kong Peining, Ye Qian, Liu Qingyang and other designers all use a model called Xin Yuan, because they are old acquaintance friends. Kong Peining said that although he had many friends, he was not sociable: "Xin Yuan often said I was a rolling boy, where I was a wallflower!"
Q: as an independent designer, what do you think of fame and wealth?
A: some designers say that they don't value fame and wealth. It's a bit too deliberate. In fact, what you do is to express your thoughts and let everyone know you. For me, including good friends, everyone's unified view is to create wealth, but this wealth is not only money, but also personal value and social impact.
Q: in Beijing, I heard that those of you who design independently are actually friends with each other.
A: Yes. For example, before I entered BNC, I knew more than one year of them. That's the way they are. Almost all my friends are fashions. In fact, these active designers, photographers, and models are all acquainted with each other, because when we played together, we were all students. Everyone was cabbage at that time. Now we are all growing up. Cooperation is natural. {page_break}
Q: the customer base of designer brand seems to be confined to a small circle?
A: Yes, we have many intersections. My clothing pays more attention to fabric and tailoring. When customers wear them, they will know where they are and will be introduced to others. Customers will slowly expand. Including stars, they don't want to wear big names and wear designer clothes.
Q: where should the future of China's independent designers go?
A: now China's independent designer circles are not very mature, and there are no very standardized internal conditions of the industry. This requires everyone to work together to create a good system. China is like this. Large fashion groups do not push designers, but like our niche designers, there is no sales volume. But now that we are growing up, we can always get feedback and become better and better.
Like BNC and Dong Liang, there will be more and more designers' integration stores, and the big brands of the group will also value the power of designers more and more, including Metersbonwe and everyone. I hope there will be groups and designers in the future to do things together.
Q: what are your latest plans?
A: I plan to move to the studio to talk about two cooperative designers' integration stores. I also plan to make a showroom, semi display and half sale, but at this stage, it is not particularly mature. I think design is a process of retracting, and it has not reached a balanced state.
