YOUNGOR And Other Textile Enterprises Are In Doubt About Water Pollution.
A report from Greenpeace, an international environmental group, directed at YOUNGOR [10.34 -1.24% shares of listed companies and other textile suppliers pollute the water for a long time. However, relevant enterprises and environmental protection departments indicated in their subsequent responses that there was no abnormality in the discharge index of the enterprises and that they met the domestic standards.
Is there any illegal discharge wastewater? If the standard is different, what is the criterion of water pollution discharge standards at home and abroad? Public debate on differences between Chinese and foreign regulatory standards is heating up again.
Doubts about water pollution "Spaced against each other" Middle temperature rise
The investigation report of Greenpeace released by the international environmental protection organization, "the poison of fashion - the Chinese water pollution survey of the global clothing brand" said that many famous clothing brands such as Adidas, Nike, Lining [8.96 -4.68%] and other industrial wastewater discharged from China's two suppliers contain environmental hormone substances that can interfere with endocrine and affect reproductive system. Two Chinese suppliers are YOUNGOR textile city located in Ningbo, Zhejiang, and Zhongshan Guotai dyeing and finishing Co., Ltd. in Guangdong Zhongshan.
The investigation report quickly aroused public concern. As one of the parties involved in the report, YOUNGOR issued a public statement on the same day, saying that "the content of the report is inconsistent with the facts".
Two suppliers were accused of polluting the water source, causing public concern. Huang Xiaoxie, a netizen working in a Ningbo media, said, "how does environmental monitoring work? I am afraid only the regulatory authorities know the truth. Is it true that harmful substances are drained into the water? The people are still very worried.
"From the survey report, this exposure pollution problem is concerned with well-known clothing brands both at home and abroad. Even the famous brand clothing may have problems. The pollution is not only related to several enterprises such as YOUNGOR, but the whole textile industry, which is a common problem facing the downstream and related industries. " Hangzhou citizen Xiao Shanshan said.
How to define pollution? Is it a standard dispute?
Is there any wastewater discharged from enterprises? Cui Da, deputy chief of the Ningbo environmental monitoring detachment, told Xinhua in an interview with the Xinhua news agency that for the three chemical substances such as nonylphenol (NP), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) presented in the Greenpeace report, there is no requirement for testing in China and no emission standards have been set up.
"From the domestic standard, YOUNGOR's Emission index It is in line with the standard, COD, chemical oxygen demand, BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) and other key indicators are within the limits. At present, the environmental protection department of Ningbo has not received the notice of re sending relevant bodies of water. Cui Da Wei said.
As for the suspicion of water pollution, residents worry about water safety. Cui Da said that the waste water of YOUNGOR textile city is in line with domestic standards. "And the water is discharged into the Fenghua river. The Fenghua river is not a source of drinking water, nor has a fishery function."
In response to the Zhongshan Guotai dyeing and finishing company, another company accused of water pollution, the Guangdong environmental protection department responded that it did not find the company's sewage discharge abnormal.
In response, Greenpeace publicly stated that there is no specific provision for the use and emissions of toxic and harmful substances mentioned in the report by Greenpeace in China. However, nonylphenol (NP) has been included in the latest edition of China's list of toxic chemical substances which strictly restrict import and export. PFOS is restricted in the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants, and China is also one of the signatories.
"As for PFOA, YOUNGOR has sent the test report of Switzerland SGS to Greenpeace, where PFOA concentration in wastewater is even higher than that detected by Greenpeace report. At the same time, because of the persistence and bioaccumulation of these toxic and harmful substances, even if the concentration is very low, it will also have a serious impact on the human body and the ecological environment. Li Yifang, director of Greenpeace pollution prevention and control project, said.
Standard "depression" hidden security crisis?
The environmental investigation report again drew public attention to the debate on standards at home and abroad. From dairy products to children's toys, to newly fermented furniture and elevator standards, the recent controversy on standards at home and abroad has attracted public attention. According to the relevant people, there are differences in standards at home and abroad based on different national conditions. But in terms of food safety, environmental health and other key areas, the formulation of industry standards should be cautious. Leading enterprises should take the lead in pursuing higher benchmarks.
More than a month ago, Greenpeace released a survey report on children's plastic toys, which has aroused public concern. According to the report, 70% of the 30 plastic toys purchased in four cities such as Beijing were found to be o-phenyl two formic acid, which may have an impact on the reproductive system of children. The developed countries in Europe and the United States have restricted the use of o-benzoic acid two in children's toys.
The national quality inspection department said in a subsequent response that our toy standards are basically the same as those of the international standards, but at the same time, it is also said that although the international standards established by the international organization for Standardization (ISO) do not limit the two benzoic acid esters, but in order to ensure the safety of infants and young children, the other toy standards for infants and young children are being formulated and revised, and the limit of the amount of o-benzoic acid two formic acid will be stipulated.
Financial commentator Chen Decheng said in a public comment that the standard of life and health of the people is lower than the international standard, and exposure in a short time may be a problem in the formulation of the starting point of standards and in the first service.
Some netizens believe that domestic standards are only the bottom line for enterprises to abide by the law. Leading enterprises and brand enterprises should not only be in line with international standards in product variety, flower color technology, etc., but also strive to move closer to high standards in environmental protection and lead the whole industry to continuously improve.
"Although there are differences in the level of economic development both at home and abroad, in the long run, it is still the general trend to integrate international standards. Especially in areas such as food safety and ecological health, which directly involve personal safety, we should speed up the pace of regulation standards in a timely manner. Huang Xianhai, Professor of economics at Zhejiang University.
