Bangladesh has replaced India as the world's second largest exporter of knitwear, after China. Bangladesh imported most of the raw materials, mainly yarn, from India at higher prices, traders said.

Salam Osman, President of Bangladesh knitwear manufactures and Exporters Association (BKMEA), said: "we are now the second largest exporter in the world, second only to China."

But he did not give the exact number of Bangladesh's share in the world export market.
