EU Releases New Regulations On Fiber Composition And Textile Label

The regulation integrates all previous instructions and simplifies all requirements into one regulation.

It includes the integration of several different instructions on fiber composition testing methods and textile label rules and other requirements.

The content of the regulation has not changed much, but there are several items that need to be aroused by garment suppliers.

In the new law, a major change that affects clothing retailers and suppliers is that if the products contain non-woven materials derived from animals, they must be marked out.

If any material from animals is used in textiles, it must be clearly marked in the product label. The content is: "containing non-woven materials from animals."

The regulations also developed procedures for adding new fibers and added to appendix I, so that new fibers can be added to the generic name catalogue without modifying the regulations.

The legislation has been approved to become a statute, so there is no need for further approval from Member States.

The legislation will become a formal rule 20 days after the date of promulgation, but the effective date is May 8, 2012. After that date, the products listed for sale need to meet the requirements of the new regulation.

For all products sold and sold before May 8, 2012, the law gives a certain period of pition.

The deadline for the pition is November 9, 2014.

The directive 73/44/EEC, 96/73/EC and 2008/121/EC will be abolished from the effective date of the law in May 8, 2012.
