European Federation Of Apparel And Textile Industry Supports Anti Counterfeiting Agreements
European apparel
The Federation of textile industries (EURATEX) advocates the creation of a fair world trade system for small and medium enterprises and their employees in Europe, which means a powerful and effective means for the protection of creativity and innovation.
EURATEX formally represents the European textile and garment industry. The European textile and garment industry consists of 99% small and medium-sized enterprises (15 employees). These enterprises produce a large number of highly innovative products and play an important role in the economic and social well-being of many European Union and Pan European Mediterranean regions.
According to the latest structural data, in 2010, 149000 companies employed 1 million 900 thousand people and generated more than 172 billion euros in turnover.
With the liberalization of world trade, in addition to more or less sensible relocation and reorganization, these companies try to make up for their current problems by requiring the protection of the vitality and competitiveness of SMEs in the EU.

The Federation said that counterfeit brand names often come from counterfeiting and piracy. Especially in our industry, we must never forget that millions of designs have been copied (the main assets of SMEs), the company has been seriously affected, and a large number of other products have been illegally infringed and dangerous copies, such as airbags, baby diapers, bulletproof vests, fireproof clothes, or elevator cables.
Regardless of whether they produce traditional, technical and high-tech textiles or clothing, our businesses are hit by counterfeiting and piracy. Even though they have not directly affected the health and safety of European consumers, they have been greatly damaging the economy of our European region and have a direct impact on employment.
For all these reasons, EURATEX firmly believes that the European Parliament is more representative of the interests of European citizens, employees, consumers and entrepreneurs than any other institution. Therefore, the European Parliament should vote for the anti counterfeiting trade agreement -ACTA.
EURATEX also urges Member States that have not yet ratified the agreement to emulate 22 member states that have already supported anti counterfeiting trade agreements in order to safeguard the interests of their enterprises, employees and citizens.
Although clothing and labels (involving textiles) accounted for 7% of the total counterfeit products seized (7.778.535 products were seized in 2010 and 6 million seized in 2006), it must be emphasized that textiles and clothing products remained the largest in customs clearance procedures, for example, 2010 accounted for 26.31% of the total customs clearance procedures (Accounting for 22.05679.112 clearance procedures in 79.112 customs clearance procedures).
In 2010,
Textiles and clothing
The main country of origin and origin of counterfeiting (and accessories) is China, accounting for 76% (compared to 45% in 2005).
In 2010, the Customs Department of the member states submitted the details of the value of detention to the Committee for the first time.
The standard value reported by Member States is domestic retail value (DRV), which is the retail selling price of goods in the domestic market and the real price of member countries.
According to DRV, clothing is one of the four categories of commodities.
