SF: it's a great honor to publish your work on CSM MA Fashion Show in London Fashion week. Can you talk to us about how to get this qualification? What is the most important ability of college students, creativity, ideas or skills?

Wan: the MA Fashion course at central Saint Martin Institute of art and design is led by the most famous Louise Wilson professor in the British fashion world. Every year, thousands of people from all over the world receive applications. Only 40 girls, including men's wear, knitwear and fabric, are eligible to enroll. After 5 semesters, only 20 students were eligible to take part in Fashion Show. Competition is fierce. The Institute focuses on your own talents and understanding of fashion. The whole process of learning, tutors are assisting you in motivate yourself to realize and unaware of the potential. So just do the best thing that you are good at.

SF: what is the difference between Saint Martin's learning atmosphere, teaching environment and teaching?

Wan: the difference between China and the mainland is that it focuses on the cultivation of inspiration and trains you to see things in another way. The teachers are very strict and the conversation is very sharp, but all of them are helping you to recognize your abilities and shape your own style. What I feel most deeply is that, in China, the design department should learn to draw colors in drawing, and people with art basis must be admitted. However, in central Saint Martin, many people do not have the basic skills of painting. The school cares about a way of communication that belongs to you, and the idea that you want to express. In school, you have full freedom to express your design concept, you can fail because it is an experimental process.

SF: what are the suggestions for Chinese fashion students who want to learn from Saint Martin?

Wan: many Chinese students have asked me the same question, what preparations need to be made, and so on. In fact, I want to say that enough enthusiasm is enough. Enthusiasm can support a lot of things, and it can inspire you to solve many problems. Many Chinese students just come here and have different responses because of the different educational environment. So a good attitude is very important. Only by holding the spirit of seeking common ground while reserving differences can we truly broaden our horizons. For typing, making skills is not the most important, but if you can accumulate more knowledge, it will be very helpful.

SF: we all know that Saint Martin Institute has many internationally renowned designers. What kind of teaching philosophy has produced so many excellent designers?

Wan: the school attaches importance to the students themselves, with our professors. Louise Wilson As a very good teacher, her knowledge and rich experience in art design knowledge and industry enable her to see different gleam points on every student. She can insist on wearing black clothes all year round, completely disguises her personal preferences, and does not use a unified standard to measure students' works. Throughout the learning process, you are constantly rethinking yourself and recognizing people around you. I think this is the charm of this school.

SF: in your opinion, is there a big gap between China's design level and international level? What's the main difference?

Wan: This is a very complicated problem, which is related to designers and the whole market and consumption habits. China actually has many talented designers. However, people seem to be pursuing a fixed and acquiescence aesthetic. Maybe we all need the sense of belonging too much, as if everyone is willing to dress like the people around us, and dare not break the rules and try new things. My mentor once said to me, "if a thing can be done by everyone, why do you need it?" in my view, most Chinese designs are doing what others have done repeatedly, and have not done it better. SF: what is the plan after graduation? Is there any plan to return to China?

Wan: the development of returning home is within the plan. I have always been confident in China's fashion industry.
