American Businessmen Create The Image Of "Made In China"
When American businessman Walters arrived in Shanghai for the first time in 2003, the city was in the midst of a boom in architecture.
Low buildings were pushed down to make room for high-rise office buildings and residential areas.
Sensitive to business opportunities, Walters noticed that almost all construction workers were wearing a pair of canvas soles.
This simple and practical shoe has attracted the interest of the New Jersey people.
As a middleman between some general plastics companies in the United States and Chinese suppliers, he decided to start his own business.
Walters founded a Ospop brand with a design team and launched the first Department sports shoes and accessories in 2007.
Although it looks almost the same as ordinary shoes, Walters's shoes are improved by using double vulcanized rubber, ergonomics, and better materials, and there are many colors to choose from.
Over the past four years, Walters has sold over 2.8 million pairs of Ospop sports shoes in the United States, Italy, Spain, Germany and the whole Scandinavia Peninsula, each selling between 48 and 73 dollars, 20 times as much as the release shoes.
Walters said: "we can see from the price that we do not regard ourselves as cheap Chinese made products.
People's impression of made in China has changed a lot in the past five years.
Educated consumers all over the world know that some of the world's top products are now made in China.
Most of the time, however, they are produced for foreign brands. "
He said that the key to success in establishing a Chinese brand in overseas markets lies in innovation.
"To be original, one of the accusations against China is the lack of innovation."
Catherine von Rechenberg, a German fashion designer, is also creating his own China made brand.
The designer said, "it is the fragrant gauze that brings me to China."
She refers to the name of the fabric, literally "cloud like gauze".
This is a traditional Chinese fabric that can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty, and is now mainly produced in southern China.
Rui Xing Berg was a designer of Dior and Chanel.
In 2003, the first time she saw the fragrant gauze in Taiwan, the papyrus texture, metallic luster and the subtle color changes brought by the unique dyeing process made her fall in love with the fragrant gauze.
In 2006, Rui Xing Berg set up a studio in Beijing, employing about 20 local tailors to produce Xiangyun yarn tailored clothing and garments for customers, including tops, jackets, trousers and evening gowns.
"I strive to give this traditional fabric a sense of modernity, and use modern design and top-level technology to make it into clothes."
"So far, half of the customers in Catherine studios are foreigners and half of them are Chinese," she said.
China is now returning to tradition, and we are attracting more and more Chinese customers.
