The textile and garment industry is the traditional dominant industry in Xinjiang. After many years of development, the textile industry system has taken shape. By the end of 2012, the cotton spinning capacity of the whole region has been reduced to 7 million ingots and the scale of production capacity ranks the highest in the western region. It has formed an annual capacity of 800 thousand tons of chemical fiber pulp and 670 thousand tons of viscose, and is one of the largest production bases for chemical fiber pulp and viscose fiber in China, and 28 million 260 thousand garments. In 2012, Xinjiang's textile enterprises above Designated Size finished 21 billion 500 million yuan of industrial output value, realized 22 billion 700 million yuan of main business income, and steadily improved the industrial economic strength and overall development level.
