Recently, the Shaoxing municipal inspection and Quarantine Bureau has collected and analyzed the results of this year's clothing census and usual data. It has been found that the pH value of export fabrics is not qualified.

"It is necessary to measure the pH value of export clothing fabrics," the official said.

Only 1 months ago, the Shangyu Office of the Shaoxing municipal inspection and Quarantine Bureau conducted a sampling survey on the safety and hygiene items of the export garment enterprises in the area. It was found that 44 pH values of the 49 samples exceeded the standard.

The official website of Zhejiang entry exit inspection and Quarantine Bureau issued an "early warning" on this issue. "The pH value exceeds the standard is serious and should be highly vigilant."

A person in the industry said that the pH value refers to the residual acid and alkali content in the fabric, and the general requirements are in the neutral range.

Because the surface of human body is weakly acidic, it is beneficial to prevent the invasion of germs. If the pH value of clothing exceeds the standard, it will reduce the immunity of human skin.

An intuitive performance is that some skin sensitive groups, if wearing pH value clothing, will cause skin swelling or itching and cause physical discomfort.

This physiological anomaly that only occurs for a few "physically ill" people has not caused the strong supervision of most importing countries on clothing pH value. This makes some domestic textile enterprises free from the sampling system.

But this phenomenon will change in Shaoxing.

In November 20th, the Shaoxing municipal inspection and Quarantine Bureau issued the preparatory notice on adding pH value test to Shaoxing export garment fabrics, which means that Shaoxing textile enterprises officially entered the preparation period of "pH value for export garment inspection to be tested".

After 5 months of preparation and buffer period, the measure will be enforced in Shaoxing next April 1st.

In the industry, the pH value test object is the export garment batch (intercept batch) to be tested, specifically according to the non direct contact skin product testing standard, and the pH value is 4 - 9.

This means that in the future, Shaoxing's textile and garment enterprises will export clothing materials. If the pH value is not qualified, they will face the embarrassment that they can not export.

Unlike other places, the Shaoxing inspection and quarantine department will not test the relatively safe PCP (pentachlorophenol) index next year. The reason is that most export fabrics have reached this standard and the PCP detection rate is relatively low.

The domestic pH value has been tested as normal. As far as textile safety is concerned, as early as 1987, China has formulated the standard method for testing the pH value of textiles, and formaldehyde detection has become a routine inspection item for textiles.

In January 1, 2005, the national basic safety technical specification for textile products replaced the "limitation of formaldehyde content in textiles". It became a new mandatory standard for national textiles. In the Ordinance, the pH value of water extract was re regulated. That is, the pH value of clothing fabrics is not directly related to skin. The standard is 4 to 9, and the pH value standard of clothing fabrics directly contact with skin is relatively higher, which is 4 to 7.5.

This "take into account" pH value mandatory inspection of domestic measures, so that many textile enterprises "consciously" abide by them.

From the provincial quality and Technical Supervision Bureau, during the past third quarters, 125 batches of socks products (not involving export products) of 125 enterprises in Wenzhou, Ningbo, Jinhua, Shaoxing and other places were surveyed, the comprehensive pass rate was 96.3%, and the batches pass rate was 84%.

Similarly, in the Huizhou region of Guangdong Province, which shoulders the heavy responsibility of export, the pH value of export clothing stays at the "sampling" level.

Since the beginning of this year, the pH value exceeding the standard data has reached 87.9%, and the effect between "strong inspection" and "random inspection" is self-evident.

He pointed out that the direction for green textiles is located in Zhejiang Bao textile printing and dyeing Co., Ltd., which is located in Binjiang industrial area of Shaoxing. Although this is not in the scope of "enforcing the export pH value standard", any official minor action on the increasingly mature green textile safety issue will attract the attention of the textile enterprise specializing in the African market.

Chen Zhongdong, deputy director of the company's office, said that the enforcement of the pH value standard is inevitable for export textile enterprises. At present, many foreign customers have put forward specific requirements for pH value standards.

In his impression, his company exports all cotton real wax printing cloth in North Africa, and the pH value is mostly between 4 and 9.

Jin Guanxiu, senior engineer of Zhejiang Modern Textile Industry Research Institute, said that this is a positive sign of green consumption. This standard points out the direction for enterprises to produce green textiles, and helps enterprises to have a deep understanding of the safety of textiles and break the foreign green trade barriers.
