IOS 8 How To Reform The Storage And Management Of Mobile Platform Documents
< p > Apple has brought a lot of changes in iOS 8 announced last week, especially in document WWDC storage and management, one of the most controversial issues in mobile platforms. Although iCloud will play a great role in the application of iOS and OS X unified iCloud Drive, the third party developers will also have the opportunity to add better file management functions to their applications. < /p >
At P developer's conference in WWDC conference and after a week, Apple introduced in detail the new functions and API added by the new system, and discovered one thing in common: applications can now cross their sandbox to access files stored in other applications without creating unnecessary copies. In order to better understand the importance of these changes in iOS 8 and the inherent complexity they will add to developers and users, I want to take a step back to introduce some background situations: how iOS currently handles file storage and management. < /p >
< p > since the mid 2012, iPad has become the main computer I use. When Apple released OS X Mavericks last year, I think it will have a certain impact on my habit of working with mobile devices. I often mention a iOS function that I hope Apple will eventually solve: the "open" menu. < /p >
< p > with the passage of time, Apple's solution began to show its shortcomings, and users began to ask for more convenient operation. < /p >
The file management system adopted by P > iPhone and iPad is safe, but it is becoming more and more cumbersome and annoying. For many years, the developers have begun to adopt the SDK approach: instead of waiting for apple to add new file management and collaboration functions, they support the built-in third party cloud service in their own applications, allowing multiple files to be synchronized in multiple devices. < /p >
In the third party cloud services provided to consumers, Dropbox is the most stable iOS ecosystem in P. Thousands of applications support synchronous files with Dropbox, mainly because it allows users to process copies of a file on multiple devices and can be installed as a common folder on desktop computers. With the popularity of Dropbox increasing, local multi version and sharing functions have been added to SDK. < /p >
< p > 2011, < a href= "http:// www.91se91.com/news/index_c.asp" > iCloud < /a > provides file storage and synchronization functions, appropriately named as documents in the cloud. However, unlike other services, iCloud does not allow users to avoid duplicates of the same files. If users want to edit multiple applications on the iOS device, they still need to create multiple copies in different applications. Sandbox files will be pushed to iCloud and then backed up to other devices. However, from the workflow point of view, these are isolated and cannot be linked to sandboxes of other applications. < /p >
< p > to a certain extent, I believe that the popularization of iOS application a href= "http:// www.91se91.com/news/index_c.asp" > file < /a > synchronous solution is a by-product of Apple's basic sandbox mode. For many users who do not necessarily need synchronization, the advantages of synchronization are multiple platforms, multi devices, and editing of multiple applications on the same file to achieve a file management workflow beyond Apple limit. < /p >
< p > < < a href= "http:// > www.91se91.com/news/index_c.asp > iOS 8 < /a >, Apple will reshape document storage and management. For users, iCloud Drive will make cloud storage and synchronization more obvious, and applications will be able to collaborate on the same file without creating copies. For the third party developers who do not want to rely on iCloud, apple is developing a new integrated solution: any application can use other storage providers. < /p >
