    Facing the increasingly intensified environmental protection measures in the printing and dyeing industry, it is a question that every industry needs to think deeply about how to pform the pressure into power, implement environmental protection sizing and lay a solid foundation for the later green printing and dyeing industry.

      


    Say "no" to sizing PVA.

    According to the State Environmental Protection Department's open data, in the 41 industrial sectors surveyed in 2012, the textile industry's wastewater discharge and chemical oxygen demand emissions have dropped, but they are still in the third and fourth places respectively, accounting for 11.7% of the total wastewater discharge volume and 9.1% of the total chemical oxygen demand discharge of the key industrial enterprises.

    Industrial wastewater is mainly printing and dyeing wastewater, and printing and dyeing wastewater containing PVA is difficult to be biodegraded due to PVA biodegradation. The COD value of printing and dyeing wastewater is very high. Printing and dyeing wastewater is difficult to handle and the processing cost is increased.

    Therefore, reducing the PVA content in printing and dyeing wastewater is an effective way to protect the environment and promote printing and dyeing emission reduction.

    To reduce PVA in printing and dyeing wastewater, the cotton textile industry needs less sizing and no PVA sizing.

    As early as the 90s of last century, the China Cotton Textile Industry Association proposed that textile sizing should be used less and not PVA. Over the past 20 years, with the joint efforts of the association and the joint efforts of enterprises, the use of PVA in textile sizing has dropped substantially compared with the end of the last century.

    A recent survey showed that over 80% of the enterprises had realized that the warp number was larger than 14.5tex (40S) and the sizing was not PVA. Nearly 50% of the enterprises had basically finished the yarn sizing with the warp number larger than 9.7tex (60S) without PVA.

    Alternative products continue to emerge

    In recent years, with the increasing intensity of energy saving and emission reduction in the country, the problem of sewage discharge has affected the sustainable development of textile enterprises.

    More and more textile enterprises are also fully aware that green textile will be a new advantage for the sustainable development of textile industry.

    Textile size production enterprises and textile enterprises are also actively trying to try and develop a new technology to replace the PVA, which has made some achievements.

    Since 2012, in the development process of textile sizing products, 15 successively PVA sizing products have been developed.

    The practical application of related textile production enterprises shows that the sizing performance of these products has been able to replace PVA in the sizing process of most fabric varieties.

    At the same time, in recent years, textile sizing industry has also emerged such as semi gelatinization sizing technology, foam sizing technology and so on. It has the basis of large-scale industrial promotion and new environment-friendly sizing process. It provides a foundation for the industry to realize environmental protection sizing without PVA.

      


    Pushing "no PVA" certification

    Textile pulp is a relatively special raw material in textile enterprises. It should belong to the food chemical industry. The difference between industries makes it difficult for textile enterprises to take timely and effective measures to detect the slurry composition used. Some non-standard pulp manufacturers make up for the defects of their products, and add PVA or other non environmental ingredients in the slurry called PVA, which brings risks to the production and sale of weaving enterprises.

    In order to standardize the pulp market and promote environmental protection sizing, the China Cotton Textile Industry Association has carried out the certification work of "no PVA slurry products". With the help of relevant research institutes, the textile raw materials will be properly controlled for textile enterprises, so as to ensure that textile enterprises can use genuine PVA free slurry products and lay a solid foundation for environmental protection desizing.

    On the other hand, the production of fabric products without PVA sizing technology can adopt a more environmentally friendly desizing process in the downstream post-processing process, such as amylase desizing, which will greatly reduce environmental pollution and reduce the discharge pressure of printing and dyeing enterprises and reduce the cost of sewage.

    How can the downstream printing and dyeing enterprises choose the fabric that does not contain PVA? The certification work of "PVA free fabric" provides a solution for this problem.

    The China Cotton Textile Industry Association launched the "PVA free fabric" certification in 2013. The aim is to promote the competitiveness of printing and dyeing enterprises by promoting the "no PVA fabric" of textile enterprises.

    At the same time, manufacturing enterprises that can produce truly PVA free pulp products and textile enterprises without PVA sizing process and producing PVA free fabrics usually need strong technical strength, which also guarantees the quality of their products to a certain extent.

    The certification work of "no PVA sizing" and "no PVA fabric" provides a reliable and non PVA slurry product for textile enterprises, and provides a guarantee for downstream printing and dyeing enterprises to choose PVA free fabrics.
