According to a research report, American consumers are far behind what they throw away every year.

So much that they want to know more about recycling.

The State of Reuse report, published by US thrift retailer Savers in the US, examines the cognition of clothing consumption and reuse, and identifies opportunities to educate consumers and change waste habits.

In the research data it commissioned, consumers showed that on average, 81 pounds of clothing were removed per person (2015) - 95% of them were reused or recycled.

The report found that American consumers throw out about 4.7 bags of garbage every year, but the actual number almost doubled, reaching 8.1 bags.

The study also found that there were some wrong ideas in the donor centers. 54% of consumers admitted to throwing away their clothes because they did not think the donation center would accept their donation.

However, consumers also have strong desire to understand the reutilization and its positive impact on the economy and the environment. More than half of them expressed their understanding.

    Ready-made clothes

After the impact of the industry on the environment, they are more likely to reuse clothes.

Moreover, more than 90% of people believe that schools should teach the concept of reuse, so as to increase the habit of sustainable use in future generations.

"As an organization dedicated to advocating re-use, Savers felt the need to investigate existing obstacles and clarify misunderstandings about donations of clothing and second-hand goods.

From Savers State of Reuse Report, we can see that public sector and private sector have more and more opportunities to work together to educate people to reduce their environmental impact on clothing and promote ready-made clothing.

Savers executive director Ken Alterman says.
