Where Is The New Opportunity For China'S Textile And Clothing Trade In 2018?
World clothing shoes and hats online news, China Textile Import and Export Chamber of commerce is China's textile and garment import and export industry leading national industry organization, a total of more than 12 thousand member enterprises, membership imports and exports accounted for about 70% of China's textile and clothing import and export volume.
In recent years, the China Textile Import and Export Chamber of Commerce has established close ties with the organizations, institutions and enterprises of textile and garment industry in various countries and regions, and has conducted in-depth cooperation in various fields such as trade, investment, information, exhibition, design, brand and so on. At the same time, it has also held many forums, docking meetings and exhibitions, providing a platform for Chinese and foreign enterprises to exchange and cooperate and develop the market.
We sincerely hope that through the "China Asia Textile International Forum" platform, we will exchange views and views on the trend and development direction of the global textile and garment industry with colleagues from Asia and around the world. We will explore the opportunities and challenges facing the global textile industry, especially Asian countries, and share their successful experience in meeting challenges and seek opportunities for mutual cooperation and common development.
The development of China's textile and apparel trade in 2017
In 2017, with the slow recovery of the global economy and the steady growth policy of China, the export of Chinese textile and clothing continued to stabilize and recovered again after two consecutive years of decline.
Textile and apparel exports totaled 268 billion 600 million US dollars for the whole year, an increase of 0.8%, of which 110 billion 490 million US dollars in textile exports, an increase of 4.2%, and clothing exports 158 billion 110 million US dollars, down 1.4%.
From the point of view of imports, China's textile and apparel imports totaled 24 billion 550 million US dollars for the whole year, an increase of 5.3%, reversing the decline in imports for three consecutive years since 2014.
According to China Customs statistics, in 2017, there were 9.9 textile and garment export enterprises in China, and exported 4 million 740 thousand tons of yarn, 44 billion 600 million meters of fabric and 68 billion 500 million pieces of clothing to 234 countries and regions in the world.
There are 3.4 textile and garment importing enterprises, and imported 2 million 630 thousand tons of yarn, 2 billion 400 million meters of fabric and 1 billion 500 million pieces of clothing from 159 countries and regions in the world.
This group of data tells us that China, as the world's largest textile and garment producer and trading nation, has been playing a pivotal role in the world's textile and clothing trade.
The main features of the export are as follows:
First, the upstream export situation is better than downstream products.
In 2017, China's yarn exports increased by 7.8%, fabric exports increased by 4.1%, manufactured exports increased by 3.5%, and clothing exports dropped by 1.4%.
The proportion of garments in exports is 59%, which is 8 percentage points lower than ten years ago.
The export competitiveness of Chinese clothing downstream products is weakened, and the competition pressure from neighboring countries is still large.
The growth of exports of upstream products is largely benefited from the increased demand for Chinese yarn and fabric due to incomplete industrial chains in other garment producing countries.
Two, the number of main products has increased, but export prices have declined.
In 2017, the export volume of cotton, chemical fiber and non-woven fabrics increased by 2.1%, 6.6% and 8.9% respectively, but the export prices decreased by 2.2%, 5.2% and 5.6% respectively. The export volume of knitted garments and woven garments increased by 2.9% and 2.7% respectively, but the export prices dropped by 8.5% and 1.6% respectively.
The growth of the export volume of most products reflects the steady recovery of demand in the international market on the one hand. On the other hand, it also shows that China's textile and apparel products still have strong international competitive advantages.
The reasons for the decline in export prices are: first, raw material prices remain stable, and cotton prices shrink. Two, the popularity of international market parity, fast fashion brands, and retail prices continue to decline. Three, competition from other low-cost countries has forced our enterprises to avoid excessive loss of market share by increasing production efficiency and reducing costs.
Three, the export of traditional markets remained stable, and exports to emerging markets rose or fell.
In 2017, China's exports to the European Union, the United States and Japan basically maintained a 1% increase or decrease. It can be said that the basic stability has been maintained, and exports to ASEAN, South America, Russia and other regions have increased by 4.5%, 20.3% and 6.7% respectively.
Exports to 64 countries along the "one belt and one way" grew by 2.9%, and exports to the Middle East countries dropped by 8.5%.
The four is the emerging trade format to stimulate export recovery.
In 2017, China's general trade exports dropped slightly, processing trade exports decreased by 5.4%, and border trade exports increased by 18.8%.
Cross border e-commerce, market purchasing trade and other new formats have grown rapidly, becoming a new highlight in the growth of textile and clothing trade.
The import and export of cross border e-commerce comprehensive test area has more than doubled, and the market purchase trade export growth has exceeded 30%.
Five, Jiangsu and other provinces are pulling the export forward positively, and Xinjiang and Hebei are among the top growth figures.
In 2017, exports of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shandong increased in the top five regions, while exports from Guangdong and Fujian declined.
Xinjiang, Hebei and Guangxi export increased by more than 15%, ranking the highest in the country.
Although exports are showing a good overall trend this year, judging from the development trend and characteristics of textile and garment industry in recent years, the international economic environment has greater uncertainty. International competition is becoming more and more intense. The rise of low cost countries, the fluctuation of global raw material prices, the rise of trade protectionism, the acceleration of overseas distribution of Chinese enterprises, and the pressure of domestic industry pformation and upgrading, and the future of China's textile and garment exports will face a new normal in the long run, which is fluctuating slightly and decreasing international market share.
Two, major challenges
First, exchange rate fluctuations cause losses in profits.
Two, the external situation is becoming grim and the number of trade frictions increased.
In 2017, trade remedy cases for textile and garment industry still showed an active and upward trend.
There were 11 new cases and 1 early warning cases.
The new case involved $510 million, an increase of 22% over last year.
The case involves many countries and regions such as the United States, India, Columbia, Turkey and Indonesia.
Three, the rising labor costs and the shortage of labor continue to exist.
Four, environmental protection has great impact on the textile industry.
Five, China's share in the world market continues to decrease.
According to WTO data, China's share of global textile and garment trade fell for the first time in 20 years in 2016, 36.7%, 1.8 percentage points lower than the previous year.
Textile exports accounted for 37.2% of the world's share, 0.2 percentage points lower than the previous year, and clothing exports accounted for 36.4% of the world's total share, reducing by nearly 3 percentage points.
China's share in the world's major markets continued to decline. In 2017, China's market share in the European Union, the United States and Japan dropped by 4, 2.5 and 10 percentage points respectively over five years ago.
Three. New opportunities for future development
In recent years, China's textile and garment exports have declined. Some people think that the textile and garment industry has become a "sunset industry" in China, and has a pessimistic view of the future development of China's textile and clothing industry. However, most of the enterprises in the industry still have faith in the competitiveness of China's textile and garment industry in the future.
We believe that only sunset enterprises, there is no sunset industry.
Where does our confidence come from?
First, the "one belt and one way" initiative will effectively strengthen China's textile industry in Asia and the world.
Apparel supply chain
The core position.
With the deepening of the capacity cooperation between China and its neighboring countries, the Asian region has formed a complete industrial chain with China as the center. It has promoted the export of Asian countries to the developed countries and China's huge consumer market, and promoted the trade of yarns and fabrics in Asian countries.
In 2013, ASEAN first surpassed Japan to become China's third largest textile and garment export market.
At present, Vietnam and Bangladesh are China's first, second largest exporter of yarn and fabrics according to a single country.
Meanwhile, Vietnam first became the first source of China's textile and clothing imports in 2016.
Two, Xinjiang, Henan and other central and western regions actively undertake industrial pfer in the eastern region to provide strong support for manufacturing in the country.
In order to maintain the steady development of China's foreign trade, in 2016, the Chinese government introduced a package of encouraging policies in the Midwest to undertake industrial pfer in the eastern coastal areas, and ordered the processing trade industry to pfer from the eastern coastal areas to the central and western regions in an orderly way.
Xinjiang, Henan and other regions rely on the advantages of cotton resources and labor, as well as preferential policies and excellent geographical location.
Three, the pformation and upgrading of "made in China" is the fundamental foundation for China's textile and garment to maintain export competitive advantage.
Facing the downward pressure of export, the endogenous driving force of enterprise pformation and upgrading has been gradually enhanced. Through intelligent manufacturing, industrial chain integration and brand building, the comprehensive competitiveness of the industry has been effectively enhanced.
Vigorously pform and upgrade traditional industries, and further implement "made in China 2025".
The textile and garment industry has undergone a profound pformation from "big" to "strong", and intelligent manufacturing has become an important driving force for industrial upgrading.
In addition, Chinese enterprises have intensified their efforts in design and brand in recent years, basically realized the leap from OEM to independent design and manufacture (ODM), and are moving towards the goal of independent brand manufacturing (OBM).
Four, we should speed up the construction of bases, constantly highlight the location advantages and create regional brands.
Speed up the construction and cultivation of bases
Industrial Cluster
It is an important task for the Chinese government to promote the development of foreign trade in 2107.
At present, there are more than 40 textile and garment foreign trade pformation and upgrading bases in China, which provide strong support for China to maintain the status of the world's largest textile and garment export.
In the future development, we should give full play to the leading role of the leading enterprises in the development of the base, gradually improve the industrial chain, form the advantages of special products, speed up the construction of intelligent factories, enhance the design and research capabilities, and enhance the awareness of environmental protection, so as to create regional brands.
Five, structural changes in the international market structure provide new opportunities for Chinese enterprises.
At present, driven by the new wave of technology, the consumption and market structure of international textile and apparel has undergone structural changes.
With the rapid development of Amazon and other e-commerce giants, traditional retail has been greatly challenged, fast fashion and even "ultra fast fashion" brand is rising rapidly, small public designer brand, custom brand rise, cross-border e-commerce scale is rapidly expanding, consumer preference and purchase behavior are changing rapidly. The trend of order individuation, customization and fragmentation is obvious, and "moral procurement" is prevalent. All these provide new opportunities for Chinese enterprises to gain advantage in international competition.
The six is the great potential of China's domestic market, which provides a guarantee for the survival of China's textile and garment industry.
In 2016, China surpassed the United States for the first time and became the world's largest apparel retail market.
In 2017, the retail sales of clothing, shoes, hats, needles and textile products in the above quota reached 1 trillion and 400 billion yuan, an increase of 7.8% over the same period last year, and the rate of increase was 0.8 percentage points higher than that of the previous year, 3.8 times higher than that of ten years ago.
Since China's accession to the WTO, imports of textile and garment products, especially clothing and other terminal products have maintained rapid growth. China's clothing imports grew from 1 billion 220 million US dollars in 2001 to US $7 billion 180 million in 2017, a cumulative increase of 4.9 times, and the proportion of clothing imports to textile and clothing increased from 8.8% in 2001 to 29.2%.
According to the World Trade Organization statistics, in 2016, China was not only the world's largest exporter of textiles and clothing, but also the third largest textile importer and the seventh largest importer of clothing in the world.
Since December 1, 2017, China has temporarily lowered import tariffs on 187 consumer goods, including 26 tax codes for clothing and home textile products, such as men's suits, coats, cashmere sweaters, cashmere scarves and other products. Import duties fell from 14-25% to 5-10%, and the tax reduction rate reached 9-15 percentage points.
This policy move will also boost China's import growth.
Last May, President Xi Jinping announced that the Chinese government will hold the first "China International Import fair" in Beijing last May. This is China's major initiative to open the market to the world. It is conducive to expanding imports and promoting balanced development of foreign trade. It is an open cooperation platform for all countries in the world to display national image and develop international trade. It is also an international public product that China promotes the construction of "one belt and one road" and promotes economic globalization.
At that time, the China Textile Import and Export Chamber of Commerce will actively participate in the preparation and organization of the import fair, and provide convenience and assistance to the world's textile and clothing products to enter the Chinese market.
The future development of China's textile and garment industry should focus on the main theme of the "one belt and one way" construction and the pformation and upgrading of the industry, and innovate the development mode in improving the industrial chain, integrating supply chain and upgrading value chain, so as to promote the upgrading of the industry and seek the development path of specialization, differentiation, lean and internationalization.
Although textile and clothing are traditional industries, as long as the integration of new kinetic energy and integration, traditional industries can dig out new gold mines.
China's development has entered a new era.
China Textile Import and Export Chamber of Commerce
Also entered a new stage of development.
The China Textile Import and Export Chamber of Commerce will continue to adhere to the comprehensive deepening reform, adhere to the new development concept, work together with people from all walks of life and industry colleagues to promote the pformation, upgrading and innovation development of the textile and garment industry, and continue to make use of its own advantages to provide better and better services in the exhibition, international forum, industry docking, personnel training, legal aid and information consultation.
