Use $1 Billion 500 Million To End Plastic Waste! Berry, Procter & Gamble, BASF And Other Enterprises Announced The Establishment Of A Global Alliance.
Recently, nearly 30 world-renowned enterprises in the value chain of plastics and consumer goods declared "alliance", which means the problem of plastic waste that plagued the world.
The global alliance, called The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (referred to as AEPW), has committed to invest 1 billion US dollars (planned to invest US $1 billion 500 million in the next five years) to help end the plastic waste in the environment.
Members of the alliance will develop new solutions to reduce and control plastic waste. This will also include promoting the recycling of plastic products and promoting recycling economy.
Plastics provide health, safety, sustainability and convenience, and help improve the living standard, sanitary conditions and nutritional status of the world, especially in developing countries.
But plastic waste is not an ocean, a river or our environment.
Understanding the source of plastic waste is critical.
The Ocean Conservancy study points out that plastics in the ocean come mainly from land waste.
Most of the plastic waste reaches the ocean through rivers, mainly from ten important rivers flowing through densely populated areas of Asia and Africa.
These areas lack sufficient waste disposal and recycling facilities, resulting in a large number of garbage leakage.
"Everyone agrees that plastic waste is not part of the ocean or anywhere in the environment," said AEPW chairman and P&G Taylor CEO David Taylor David.
The end of plastic pollution is a complex and severe challenge facing the world. Prompt and decisive action and strong leadership are needed.
The new alliance has gathered all forces to work together to end the plastic waste in the environment.
AEPW will initiate actions in areas most needed, including the promotion of multiple projects in four key areas:
Developing infrastructure, collecting and managing waste and increasing recycling rate;
Through innovation to promote and expand the use of new technologies, the recycling and utilization of plastics are more convenient and the value is explored from the used plastic products.
Government, business and community education and participation to mobilize and speed up action;
Clean up the environment of plastic waste in the hardest hit areas, especially the main channels for land waste into the sea, such as rivers.
Among them, as a founding member of the Berri International Group (Berry), in addition to helping to end the environmental plastics waste solutions, and other key institutions to cooperate actively to promote recycling, and at the same time, in the internal production process, vigorously improve the recycling rate of products, increase the use of recycled materials products.
As one of the efforts to end plastic waste, Berry group is actively implementing the OCS Global Initiative: to prevent the loss of plastic particles in the value chain through behavior, architecture and technical means.
Mr. Tom Salmon, the chairman and chief executive of Berry, said: "AEPW is different from other alliances because it runs through the value chain.
The alliance is made up of brands, plastic particle producers, chemical companies, plastic products processing manufacturers like Berry, and waste management and recycling companies. We share the same goal: how can we fundamentally eliminate plastic waste? "
Berry group has tried to reduce the impact of plastic waste on the environment through the use of consumer recycled materials. The results are very encouraging.
Tom Salmon believes that by joining the AEPW alliance, they can have a more positive impact on the cycle of use of plastic products, with a view to increasing the utilization of recycled materials.
Martin Bruderm Bruderm ller, chairman and chief technology officer of the Executive Board of the European company, also strongly supports the establishment of the alliance.
"We firmly support the goal of reducing plastic waste in the natural environment," he said.
BASF has established this alliance, because we hope to lead and promote innovative solutions to contribute to the effective solution of global plastic waste issues.
Plastic is an efficient material, which can save resources and benefit human health, safety and social convenience.
However, if we fail to use, process and recycle plastic waste properly, these advantages will become a disadvantage.
About AEPW
The AEPW is a non-profit organization with members from the global value chain of plastics and consumer goods, including chemical and plastic manufacturers, consumer goods companies, retailers, packaging film manufacturers and waste management companies.
The alliance has also established a strategic partnership with the Commission on sustainable development of the world.
The founding members of AEPW include: BASF (BASF), Berry Global, Procter & Gamble, Dow Mobil, Mitsui chemical, Saudi Basic Industries, Braskem, Chevron Phillips chemical, Corleone, cosmos, DSM, Formosa group (USA), Henkel, liende Basel, MITSUBISHI Chemical Holdings, NOVA chemistry, OxyChem, Puli Wan, Reliance Industries, saxor, Shell, Suez, Siam chemical, Sumitomo chemical, Total, Veolia and Eni group Versalis branch.
