The "STeP certification" in Chinese is known as "sustainable textile production certification". The English full name is SustainableTextile Production (hereinafter referred to as STeP). It is an independent certification system for textile enterprises provided by Oeko-Tex of the international environmental protection textile association.

The modular evaluation framework of the system makes a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the important production aspects of textile enterprises from various angles, such as the utilization of environmentally friendly technology and products, the effective utilization of resources, and the social responsibility and the working conditions of employees. The 6 assessment modules stipulated in the system are chemical management, quality management, environmental protection, environmental management, social responsibility, health and safety. The international environmental Textiles Association was founded by the Haines Institute of Austria and the Textile Research Institute of Germany. It is now composed of 15 textile identification institutions and their representative offices.

"STeP certification" can cover all stages of textile production, including fiber production, spinning and weaving, knitting to finishing and garment manufacturing. "STeP certification" transparently and reliably conveys the sustainable production conditions of enterprises, and helps global brands and retailers to find suitable suppliers that meet their environmental and social responsibility requirements worldwide. At the same time, this certification also provides favorable conditions for production enterprises to develop new market and supplier relationship.

Textile and garment manufacturing enterprises can apply for textile products. It usually takes at least 3 months to submit the certification application intention to the certificate.

The requirement of "STeP certification" is relatively high, which is difficult for enterprises with weak management foundation and relatively poor environmental friendliness.
