Textile Museum: Showing The Past And Present Of Shanghai'S "Mother Industry"

    2019/10/29 15:02:00 12

    ProposalShanghai Textile Museum

This year, the Shanghai Textile Museum opens 10th anniversary. More than 30 years ago, 3 municipal CPPCC members submitted proposals and called for the establishment of the Shanghai Textile Museum. After more than 20 years of hard work, the proposal was finally implemented.

Brief introduction of the proposal: the establishment of the Shanghai Textile Museum, the development of Shanghai's textile industry, and the prospect of Shanghai's textile industry.

The result of the proposal: in 2009, the Shanghai museum was officially opened to the public. It provided a place for the city people to teach and entertaining. It also led to the emergence of museums in other industries.

Sponsor: Su Yanbin, Zhang Chengzong and Ding Li, six CPPCC members.

Nowadays, when tourists stroll around the Shanghai Textile Museum, they seem to be in a wonderful historical scroll. Here, with the aid of a large number of characters, pictures and images, you can see that Shanghai's textile industry has a long history in the Ming Dynasty, and felt the remarkable achievement of Shanghai's textile industry as a "mother industry" and "pillar industry" in Shanghai during the new China period. After thousands of years of inheritance, hundred years of brilliance and ten years of innovation, Shanghai's textile industry is still continuing to be surrounded by land on both sides of Pujiang. This has made many visitors to Shanghai feel strong feelings.

As early as 1986, members of the Shanghai municipal CPPCC Committee submitted proposals to propose the establishment of the Shanghai Textile Museum, showing the development process of Shanghai's textile industry, and looking forward to the prospects for the development of Shanghai's textile industry. After more than 20 years of hard work, this proposal has finally become a reality.

30 years ago, the call for contributions was brilliant.

Shanghai is one of the birthplaces of China's textile industry. In the late Song and early Yuan Dynasties, cotton seeds were introduced in Shanghai. In the Yuan Dynasty, Huang Daopo, a famous cotton textile producer, started spinning by hand. In the Ming Dynasty, Shanghai became the largest cotton spinning and weaving center in the country. In the Qing Dynasty, Shanghai imported textile machinery into a machine weaving department and established a textile industrial system.

After the founding of new China, Shanghai has become the technological center of modern textile industry in China. The number, scale and practitioners of the textile industry are the highest in the country. They have made great contributions to the country in the fields of scientific research and development, technology import, foreign exchange earning and exchange, and internal and external exchanges.

At the five session of the six session of the CPPCC in Shanghai in 1986, Su Yanbin, Zhang Chengzong and Dingli of the CPPCC Committee submitted their proposals, and proposed the establishment of the Shanghai Textile Museum, collecting ancient antiques, displaying the essence of Chinese culture, collecting data on the technological development of modern Shanghai textile industry, summarizing the development process, communicating advanced technology at home and abroad, and exploring the future development direction.

In terms of specific proposals, the proposal suggests that museums can be divided into ancient museums (ancient textile relics collected from Huang Po Po), according to dynasties' sequence display, modern museum (collected from the end of Qing Dynasty to the eve of the founding of new China), modern museum (collection of Textile Scientific Research achievements, product development, management and cultural relics and overseas development since the founding of new China). Trend information display, academic exchange room (equipped with telecommunication facilities, such as sound, projection, video and so on, for internal and external communication).

As for this proposal, various contractors said that it was necessary for Shanghai to set up a Textile Museum, but it was difficult to implement it in the short term when it was limited to the objective conditions at that time. It is suggested that from the very moment, we can start collecting and sorting out textile relics in different periods, collect samples of various development data, and make use of subordinate units to allocate part of their housing, and begin to plan for construction. The scale can be gradually developed from small to large, and when conditions are ripe, the Textile Museum will be formally established in Shanghai.

Construction of museums in early twenty-first Century

Time flies. By the beginning of twenty-first Century, the construction of Shanghai Textile Museum was finally put on the agenda. It is understood that the reason why the Shanghai Textile Museum can start construction is closely related to the background of that era.

From the perspective of Shanghai's urban development, by the year twenty-first Century, Shanghai has gone through a period of large-scale municipal construction with "one year, one sample and three years of great change", and began to invest more in cultural construction. In particular, in early twenty-first Century, Shanghai started to build a batch of cultural venues, including museums and monument, by bidding for the 2010 World Expo. At that time, various industries and systems in Shanghai had taken actions, which created a good external environment for the construction of the Shanghai Textile Museum.

From the point of view of the development of Shanghai's textile industry, in 1990s, Shanghai's textile industry "strong men broke their arms", carrying out structural adjustment and functional transformation. On the one hand, "a group of enterprises that shut down" and on the other hand began the two pioneering work, and rebuilt three pillar industries of big clothing, big decoration and industrial textiles, and vigorously promoted the brand strategy. By the beginning of twenty-first Century, the Shanghai textile group had completed the reform and transformation, realized the main business losses, and could make more efforts to develop cultural undertakings. This provides a good internal condition for the construction of Shanghai Textile Museum.

In 2002, the Shanghai Textile Museum completed project approval, started construction, and was invested by Shanghai textile group.

At that time, the construction of museums was mainly related to several issues. One is the naming problem. At the beginning, some people put forward the name of the new stadium as "memorial hall". In this regard, insiders believe that such a name is not appropriate. The so-called "memorial" is mainly aimed at people and things that have vanished. However, the textile industry in Shanghai has not withdrawn from the stage of history, but the business format has changed. Therefore, the new venue is named as a museum which is more suitable. This proposal has been adopted.

Another is the location problem. With the restructuring of Shanghai's textile industry in 1990s, a number of factories "shut down" and make vacant sites. The textile group decided to select a commemorative building and build it into a museum. At that time, after discussion, there were two construction plans, one was built on the Yangpu road's original national cotton seventeen plant, the other was on the Macao road's original Shanghai Shenxin textile ninth factory. In this regard, some experts suggested that the original Shanghai Shenxin textile ninth factory was built in 1878, is the source of China's power textile, where the construction of the museum is of great symbolic significance. Finally, the second options were adopted.

The content of the museum coincides with the proposal proposal.

Over the past 20 years, the proposal of members has finally come true.

In 2008, the Shanghai Textile Museum was completed. In January 7, 2009, the museum was officially opened to the public. At that time, 3 of the sponsors of the year, Su Yanbin and Zhang Chengzong had died, Dingli was still alive and took part in the museum's opening activities. At the scene, Ding members felt great emotion.

The Shanghai Textile Museum is located at the former site of Henan Shenxin Textile Factory ninth, which is located on the North Bank of Henan and Macao road. It has more than 4000 square meters exhibition hall. The whole museum has the functions of industrial tourism, patriotic education and popular science education. It has 4 pavilions, and exhibits and layout coincide with the proposals in that year's proposal.

Among them, the "journey hall" shows the origin and development of Shanghai textile in ancient times, the initiation and rise of modern textile machinery industry in Shanghai, the prosperity and humiliation of the old Shanghai textile industry, the pillar role and brilliant achievements of Shanghai textile industry in New China, the reform and opening up and the second pioneering work of Shanghai textile industry in the new era, and the prospect of Shanghai textile leading technology and fashion in the future. The development track and trend of Shanghai's textile industry.

The "Ying Ying Pavilion" shows the brilliant achievements in the development of Shanghai's textile industry. Here, visitors can understand the "China's most" created by Shanghai's textile industry, feel the leading industry of Shanghai's textile creation, witness the skills and demeanor of textile sages, experts, model workers in Shanghai's history, memorise the "old brand" of textile industry and textile business "centenary store".

Through the exhibition of "magical fiber footprint", "colorful fabric world", "complete industrial chain" and "extensive application space", "science museum", through the introduction of new materials, new technologies, new products and new products in the textile industry, will enable visitors to understand the knowledge of textile science and experience the achievements of textile science and technology.

Since 2009, the Shanghai Textile Museum has received nearly 2 million 400 thousand people. It has provided an educational place for the citizens of Shing city. At the same time, the construction of this museum also played a certain exemplary effect, and led to the emergence of other industry museums.
