New Process Of Converting Carpet Into Functional Clothing Fiber
The newly developed recycling technology can be recycled from second-hand PET carpets and bottle bottles to make nanofibers, which can be produced by functional clothing and other products.
Verdex Technologies said that as part of the company's collaboration with Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), its patent spinning nozzle technology can be used to consume post carpet (Post Co). Nsumer carpet (PCC) materials are directly converted into nanometers / ultrafine fibers, which are converted into larger fibers for use in garments and textile markets.
The company said that Verdex technology can spin out recycled PET carpet containing polypropylene (polypropylene) and calcium carbonate (calcium carbonate), which has great potential in the functional clothing market, because nanofibers have stronger moisture permeability than other competing products in the same industry (Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate, MVTR).
A large number of carpets are sent to landfill every year. Only about 10% of the carpets can be reused or recycled. These carpet wastes account for 2% of the total amount of waste buried in the United States, amounting to nearly 4 billion pounds a year.
"Verdex recycling technology can alleviate the major environmental problems caused by the consumption of rugs and bottles, and turn it into a high priced nanofiber medium to help our customers improve their existing products or create a new product line," said Damien Deehan, the Joint Executive.
"We hope to have a real impact on the development of circular economy. Verdex recycling technology provides customers with a unique opportunity to use recycled products in finished products, which is conducive to the environment, customers and end-users.
The patented technology of spinning nanofibers is not to use solvents but to use low pressure air. This provides non-woven manufacturers with more capabilities to enhance their performance for nanofiber products.
Verdex process can also use polymers such as PCL, PLA, PP, PET, PBT, Nylon 66 and so on. If the melt viscosity is low, it can also use other possible polymers to spin nanofibers. Fibers are ejected through a single step process, and can also be incorporated into functional particles, such as super absorbent powder and activated carbon.
The company is expanding its core nanofiber technology to a 1 m commercial line, which is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The factory will also set up a laboratory scale production line that customers can use to test new product innovation and research and development.
