Textile And Garment Exports Declined In 2019 Compared With The Same Month In December.
According to customs statistics, in 2019 1-12, China's textile and apparel exports totaled 271 billion 567 million US dollars, down 1.85% from the same period last year, of which textile yarn, fabrics and products exported 120 billion 199 million US dollars, an increase of 0.94% over the same period last year, and exports of garments and accessories were 151 billion 368 million US dollars, down 3.96% compared to the same period last year.
From the beginning of September, the impact of the United States on the full tariff increase of China's textile and clothing products began to show. In the first 8 months, the monthly export growth and decline appeared alternately. Since September 1, 2019, the United States has formally imposed tariffs on China's $300 billion commodity (Listing 4), which includes most of the clothing and household textiles. In September, China's textile and clothing exports to the United States decreased, of which clothing and household textiles decreased by 21.8% and 8.5% respectively, and the total exports of the United States dropped by 20.1%, and dragged down 4 percentage points of global exports.
However, export data in December changed again. The export volume of China's textile and clothing was 24 billion 954 million US dollars in that month, an increase of 7.95% over the same period last year, reversing the 4 month decline since August and rising to fourth high in the whole month. Among them, exports of textile yarns, fabrics and products amounted to US $11 billion 6 million, an increase of 11.37% over the same period last year, and the export volume of garments and accessories reached US $13 billion 948 million, up 5.39% over the same period last year.
The growth of export data is mainly attributed to two factors: first, Sino US economic and trade consultations have released positive signals and business confidence has risen. The General Administration of Customs conducts a network questionnaire survey on 3000 foreign trade enterprises every month. The survey data in November and December show that the number of enterprises optimistic about the export situation in the next two to three months is increasing, and the number increased in December has reached the highest level since the second half of 2018. Second, the year-on-year base in December 2018 is relatively low, and in December 2019, foreign trade has a restorative growth nature. In December 2018, China's textile and apparel exports amounted to 23 billion 117 million US dollars, down 3.74% from the same period last year. Among them, exports of textile yarns, fabrics and products were 9 billion 882 million US dollars, down 2.74% compared to the same period last year. The export of clothing accessories was 13 billion 235 million US dollars, down 4.48% compared with the same period last year.
