Prior to the resumption of work in succession, SAIC GM Wuling, BYD, GAC, Changan and some other local enterprises announced the temporary transboundary transformation production line to produce masks. Cross boundary mask for car enterprises
SAIC GM Wuling became the first "crab eating man".
In February 6th, Wuling car announced in official WeChat public number that with the strong support of Guangxi district and Liuzhou municipal government, SAIC GM Wuling joint supplier will transform its mask by changing the production line, and take part in the epidemic prevention and control work with practical action. According to the project construction plan, the clean workshop will be rebuilt by Guangxi construction engineering group. It will be put into operation this month. A total of 14 mask production lines are set up, of which 4 are N95 mask production lines and 10 are general medical masks production lines. The daily production volume is expected to reach more than 1 million 700 thousand.
It is understood that SAIC GM Wuling proposed the first batch of masks offline from the production masks idea, only 3 days, the first batch of masks went off smoothly in February 9th, and the first batch of protective masks were completed in February 13th, and it was clear that the mask will not be sold abroad.
After SAIC GM Wuling, in February 8th, GAC announced that it was actively studying the plan to build equipment and production lines for processing masks, and sent relevant personnel to learn. In February 11th, the first mask production equipment of Guangzhou Automobile Group has been installed and debugged. Through cooperation with suppliers, Guangzhou Automobile Group plans to build 30 to 50 sets of equipment, some of which are used for GAC's own production, and some will be provided to other SOEs in Guangzhou.

It increased the production of medical masks, the production of protective equipment for medical and nursing personnel (II class medical devices), hygienic products and disposable medical supplies, which means that another car company announced that it would start producing mask.

According to the estimate of Huachang securities, the total number of employed people in the two or three industry in China is 530 million. If a comprehensive resumption of work is performed, a mask will be given to each person every day. The consumption of medical personnel in Hubei and other serious areas may be above 5 per day. At least 530 million masks will be needed. The maximum daily mask production capacity of 20 million is far from the demand.
Cross border production of masks by car companies is not only an initiative to shoulder social responsibility, but also a self rescue behavior.
According to the statistics of the China Automobile Industry Association, as of February 12th, 59 of the 183 vehicle production bases began to resume production, accounting for 32.2%. The epidemic is not yet over, and masks are scarce. Reopening is a great test for car companies.
The number of employees in every car company is huge, and a large number of respirators are needed every day. When the factory is resumed, workers must wear masks to prevent infection. GAC, BYD and SAIC GM Wuling are expected to have more than 10 million Nissan products, which will greatly alleviate the plight of masks.
Regarding the issue of whether the car manufacturers will change their mask will affect the production of their own cars, GAC has made it clear that this task will be promoted by the Ministry of parts and components of Guangzhou Automobile Group, and will not affect the main business of vehicle manufacturing.
BYD said that BYD Central Research Institute is responsible for the production of disinfectant, and BYD Electronics Group Nine is responsible for mask production. The specific division of labor is the production of disinfectant in Shanwei BYD Industrial Co., Ltd. and masks in BYD ninth, Shenzhen Baolong Industrial Park.
The advantages of "big industry" appear
In the industry view, car companies can successfully cross boundary production masks, thanks to their accumulation in raw materials, production qualification, personnel, funds, technology reserves, production sites and other aspects, as well as strong production capacity and efficient social resources co ordination capability.
The basic raw materials for making masks and non-woven fabrics come from polypropylene in petro chemical refinery, and the soundproof cotton and other parts of the door posts are similar to the raw materials of the respirators. This is also the reason why SAIC GM Wuling combined with its supplier Ford group. The equipment, raw materials and procurement channels of the company are similar to the mask production.
BYD mask is produced in BYD ninth, Shenzhen Baolong Industrial Park. The nine parts of Baolong have self built factory buildings, medical device system certification, and long-term cooperation and stable upstream raw material resources.
With the recovery of medical materials related enterprises, the raw materials needed for mask production are no longer the bottleneck of restriction, the procurement channels of vehicle enterprises are solid, and the technology and experience accumulated by automobile industrial workers on the professional production line provide support for cross boundary production.
In addition, the requirements of the medical mask for the production environment - constant temperature and humidity, and the need for a dust-free environment are compatible with the "painting workshop" of the car manufacturing base.
However, production qualification is a major difficulty for vehicle manufacturers to cross boundary production masks, but the relevant departments provide support for the establishment of "green channel" within the controllable scope of qualification approval.
