Volunteers Masks Protective Clothing Making

The new crown virus epidemic in the United States has caused more than 4000 deaths, and the protection materials in major hospitals are very scarce. Many medical staff are forced to reuse masks. Recently, volunteers from all over the United States have joined the ranks of masks and protective clothing, including many sewing enthusiasts and volunteers from Hollywood clothing manufacturers.

Jamarah Hayner, a sewing enthusiast, has set up a "voluntary sewing team" to sell fabrics at discounted prices and work with volunteers to make protective clothing for hospitals. After finding the medical staff of the Martin Ruud Kim community hospital in Losangeles, she said she was in urgent need of any protective material she could use.

Hollywood clothing designer Mylette Nora created a production template by splitting a medical protective clothing. According to the template volunteers, it was expected that a protective suit could be made in just 15-20 minutes. Nora said, "I will work for 8 to 10 hours in front of the sewing machine. As long as there is cloth, I will do it as long as I need it."

The Hollywood film and clothing association is now distributing the mask production kit to the public; the founder of Bednark studio, Michael Bednark, said that all the business at Brooklyn Navy Yard, Broolyn, has also been transformed into providing masks to front-line medical workers.

Bettina D 'Ascoli from New York, a heavily polluted area, was inspired by self-made masks from China and Europe, and temporarily transformed their sewing studio into a volunteer center. D 'Ascoli currently has a team of 6 coordinators and some 50 tailors. "We soon received hundreds of orders from health care workers and other volunteers," said D Ascoli, 47.

Annissa Essaibi-George, who owns a sewing school in Boston, is currently running a similar volunteer program and sharing sewing related courses on social networking platform Facebook. Annissa said, "when we are forced to stay at home and keep distance with others, we need an opportunity that is closely related to others."

Ellen Bennett, who owns apron manufacturing in Losangeles, is also planning to change the mask. She had made this idea to medical staff before, and the medical staff said, "I'm not sure if these masks are working." At present, the goal of Bennett's small factory is to produce tens of thousands of masks a week. She says she has received calls from medical workers from all over the country.
