China Textile Industry Federation Xinjiang Cotton

Recently, some international brands and institutions have excluded Xinjiang cotton and its products from their commercial activities based on lies and false information, which has aroused great indignation among Chinese society, textile industry and consumers. In this regard, the China Textile Industry Federation states as follows:

1. The China Textile Industry Federation agrees with the relevant positions of the Ministry of foreign affairs and the Ministry of Commerce of China, and opposes any stigmatization of Xinjiang cotton. We firmly oppose the actions of some international brands and institutions to exclude Xinjiang cotton and its products from their supply chain and daily business based on lies and false information. In March and August 2020, the China Textile Industry Federation has issued solemn statements on the US "Xinjiang related" bill and the US "Xinjiang supply chain business advisory notice".

2. Xinjiang cotton is recognized as a high-quality natural fiber raw material in the global industry, which can better meet the rigid consumption demand of cotton textiles and clothing worldwide, and is an important raw material guarantee for the healthy and sustainable development of China's textile industry. In recent years, not only has cotton planting and production remained stable in Xinjiang, but also the cotton textile and clothing industry has developed rapidly, which has played an important role in promoting regional economic development, solving employment problems for people of all ethnic groups and improving people's livelihood. In 2020, Xinjiang's cotton output will be 5.2 million tons, accounting for about 87% of the domestic output. By the end of 2019, there were 808 cotton processing enterprises in Xinjiang, accounting for 84% of the national total. The scale of cotton spinning spindles reached 1991 million spindles, accounting for 16% of the total number of spindles in China.

3. The China Textile Industry Federation emphasizes that the so-called "forced labor" in Xinjiang, China, is a complete lie and political operation. In January this year, Xinjiang Textile Industry Association issued a detailed and objective social responsibility report on Xinjiang cotton textile industry. We suggest that all stakeholders should refer to the contents and views of the report, respect the values based on facts and reject the false information of political operation.

4. China Textile Industry Federation hereby calls on relevant international brands and institutions to face up to the solemn position of Chinese enterprises and consumers, and take corrective measures to stop excluding Xinjiang cotton and its products from their own supply chain. This kind of wrong behavior has damaged the legitimate rights and interests of cotton growers and textile and garment industry workers of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang to obtain remuneration and improve their living standards through work. They are suspected of violating human rights in Xinjiang in the name of "supply chain compliance".

5. China Textile Industry Federation welcomes international brands and institutions to visit Xinjiang cotton producing areas and textile and garment factories to independently understand and judge relevant facts. We are willing to provide convenience and assistance for relevant investigation. At the same time, we are willing to provide active support for international brands to carry out trade and investment cooperation with Xinjiang cotton and textile industry.

6. China has the largest textile and clothing industry in the world with the most complete and independent industrial chain. It has obvious international competitive advantages, and has also built the world's largest textile and garment intermediate market and retail market. In the past decades, China's textile industry has formed a mutually beneficial and win-win supply chain partnership with a large number of international brands and buyers. At the same time, the vast Chinese consumer market is also fully open to international brands. China Textile Industry Federation agrees with the position of the Ministry of Commerce: we always welcome and support the normal business activities of multinational enterprises in China and the efforts to build an industrial chain supply chain. We hereby call on international brands to respect the legitimate rights and interests of China's textile industry, respect the free choice of more than one billion Chinese consumers, and avoid politicizing commercial issues and becoming victims of individual Anti China forces.

7. The China Textile Industry Federation would like to thank the cotton growers and textile industry workers of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang for their long-term fundamental contribution to China's textile industry, for the large amount of advanced investment made by Chinese textile and garment enterprises in Xinjiang, and for the firm position of many domestic brands and some international brands in supporting Xinjiang cotton in this incident. As the representative of the collective interests of China's textile and clothing industry, China Textile Industry Federation will continue to firmly support the cotton planting and production in Xinjiang, and will also continue to firmly support the prosperity and development of Xinjiang's textile and clothing industry!
