National Bureau Of Statistics: Consumer Price Rose 0.4% Year On Year In March And Decreased 0.5% Month On Month

In March 2021, the national consumer price rose by 0.4% year-on-year. Among them, the prices of urban and rural areas increased by 0.5%, 0.4%, 0.7% and 0.7% respectively; the prices of consumer goods and services increased by 0.6% and 0.2%, respectively. In the first quarter, consumer prices across the country were flat with the same period last year.

In March, consumer prices across the country fell by 0.5% month on month. Among them, the decrease in urban and rural areas was 0.5%, 0.6%, 3.6%, 0.2%, 0.8% and 0.1%, respectively.

I. year on year changes in prices of various goods and services

In March, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 0.1% year-on-year, affecting the rise of CPI (consumer price index) by about 0.03 percentage points. Among the food products, the rise of aquatic product price by 8.1%, which affects the CPI rise by about 0.14%; the rise of fresh fruit price by 4.0%, which affects the CPI rise by 0.08%; the rise of egg price by 3.4%, which affects the rise of CPI by about 0.02%; the rise of grain price by 1.4%, which affects the rise of CPI by about 0.02%; the price of livestock and meat decreases by 9.1%, which affects the CPI decrease by 0.40% 4%, which affected the CPI decrease by about 0.45%.

The prices of the other seven categories were up, flat and down. Among them, the prices of transportation and communication, education, culture and entertainment, medical care and health care increased by 2.7%, 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively; the prices of housing and clothing increased by 0.2% and 0.1%; the prices of daily necessities and services remained unchanged; the prices of other supplies and services decreased by 1.5%.

2. Month on month changes in prices of various goods and services

In March, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol decreased by 2.4% month on month, which affected the CPI decline by about 0.71%. In food, the price of fresh vegetables decreased by 14.5%, which affected the CPI decrease by about 0.37%; the price of livestock and meat decreased by 6.5%, which affected the CPI decrease by 0.28%, including pork price decreased by 10.9%, affecting CPI decline by 0.24%; egg price decreased by 3.8%, affecting CPI decline by about 0.02%; aquatic product price decreased by 1.4%, affecting CPI decline by 0.03%.

Other seven categories of prices rose one flat and three fell on a month on month basis. Among them, the prices of transportation and communications, clothing and housing increased by 1.3%, 0.4% and 0.2% respectively; the prices of medical care and health care remained unchanged; the prices of other supplies and services, education, culture and entertainment, daily necessities and services decreased by 0.8%, 0.4% and 0.1% respectively.
