New Materials: Thermal Clothing Ushers In A New Type Of "Breathing" Nanofiber Membrane

350 pieces of new nano film materials have been successfully used in the thermal clothing of athletes of 13 national teams, including the national alpine skiing team in 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, providing the athletes with wind protection, rain and snow protection, warmth preservation and heat loss protection.
Nanofiber membrane is the most expected waterproof and breathable material in the field of functional fabrics, but its production technology barriers are high, so far only a few foreign enterprises can produce in small quantities. Cao Hongbin, a researcher at the Institute of process engineering, took the lead in proposing the dilute solvent welding technology based on the process control of dissolution thermodynamics, and carried out technical research on large-scale electrospinning production equipment and process, and developed large-scale and high-uniformity electrospinning machine and high-speed spinning solution with independent intellectual property rights.
The newly developed nano spinning process uses tens of thousands of spinnerets to process polymer solution into superfine fibers with a diameter of only 1 / 200 hair, and then through nano welding technology, the superfine fibers are interwoven with each other to form a new fabric with hundreds of millions of nanopores per square centimeter. This new type of nanofiber fabric with porosity up to 85% seems to be able to breathe. It can prevent the leakage of water droplets while allowing water vapor and air molecules to pass through easily, so as to realize the high compatibility of "waterproof + breathable".
The test results show that the permeability of the nanofiber membrane material can reach 5 mm / S (GB / t5453-1997) under the condition of 180 kPa (GB / t4744-2013) in still water, and the elastic modulus in all directions is more than 150%. It has excellent adhesion with nylon and polyester fabrics and meets the requirements of cleaning resistance. The additives used in the physical film forming process are environmentally friendly hydrophobic agents certified by international SGS, which meet the requirements of environmental protection.
