Industrial Cluster: Mali Has Become The Largest Cotton Producer In Africa After Three Years

In the 2019 / 2020 production season, Mali's output is 700000 tons, still behind that of Benin (714000 tons). In 2020 / 2021, the new crown pneumonia epidemic led to a decline in global cotton demand. Malaysian cotton farmers gave up cotton production in large quantities, with a yield of 147000 tons, which was the worst production record since the 1980s. Therefore, Mali's cotton production fell out of the top three in Africa. In Mali, cotton is the second largest export product after gold. In 2020, it exports 163 thousand tons, creating 161.6 billion West African francs (about 272 million US dollars) of foreign exchange income.
