Shenzhen Ranks First In The Number Of Garment Brand Listed Companies In China
Recently, Shenzhen Design Week premiered the 2023 Shenzhen urban visual film "Dare to try". With science fiction and digital vision technology, the film tells a story of facing the stars and the sea, the unknown world, fearing hardships and dangers, going forward bravely, and exploring endlessly. It explains and promotes the spirit of the special zone of daring to try, daring to be the first, and working hard. It shows the urban temperament of Shenzhen as a city of science and technology, innovation, future, and dreams. Wu Hong, former dean of the School of Art and Design of Shenzhen University, doctoral supervisor, and chairman of Shenzhen Fashion Design Association, said in an exclusive interview with reporters that the film uses modern digital image language to visually and audibly express the rapid evolution of Shenzhen's construction and development, and moves from the original border agricultural county to a city of innovation and creativity with world influence. "Shenzhen Design" has become an important engine for Shenzhen to transform the mode of economic growth and high-quality development.
"Shenzhen is a city with innovation gene since its birth. Whether it is scientific and technological innovation or creative design innovation, Shenzhen has cut through the thorns all the way in the process of rapid development. Only by daring to try and expand innovation at different stages and levels can this city transform into a modern international metropolis in just over 40 years." Wu Hong pointed out that, From the initial stage of development, Shenzhen's design industry relied on the "three processing and one compensation" model, to the creation of Shenzhen's local brands and the realization of multi brand clusters, to the different stages of design leadership, and insisted on continuous innovation and exploration to drive the transformation and upgrading of the industry. The integrity of the industrial chain system and innovation potential have always been at the forefront of the country.

A set of data is more convincing. There are more than 2500 garment brand enterprises in Shenzhen, of which more than 90% are self owned brands, accounting for more than 60% of the market share in the first tier shopping malls in large and medium-sized cities nationwide, with an annual sales volume of nearly 270 billion yuan, accounting for 10% of the country. The economic aggregate, number of clothing brands, market share of clothing products, and number of listed companies of clothing industry in Shenzhen rank first in China.
"Shenzhen design has very distinctive characteristics, always adheres to market demand, and has strong vitality and competitiveness." Wu Hong believes that the design industry in Shenzhen can develop at a high speed, thanks to the complete industrial chain resources of Shenzhen system, realizing all links from innovative design to product landing within "30 square kilometers", and greatly improving the efficiency of innovation.
At present, Shenzhen design talents are injecting continuous "innovation vitality" into the industry. According to statistics, there are more than 220000 designers in Shenzhen. Wu Hong mentioned that Shenzhen has not only gathered a group of top Chinese designers, such as Liang Zi, Luo Zheng, Liu Yong, Zhao Huizhou, winners of the Golden Summit Award, the highest award in the fashion design industry, but also a large number of new designers. "More and more designers are attracted by the openness, inclusiveness and pluralism of the city, so that more innovative thinking and creative vitality flow into Shenzhen. They use their modern scientific and technological knowledge to subversively improve the thinking and tools in the design field, and drive the transformation and upgrading of the entire industry."
This year coincides with the 15th anniversary of Shenzhen's winning the title of "City of Design" of UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Wu Hong said that design is not only an industry in Shenzhen, but also a characteristic of Shenzhen that is recognized by the world. The spirit of innovative thinking and pioneering spirit has been integrated into the body of this city like blood. Shenzhen is making every effort to create the original source of innovation. "Shenzhen Design" has become an important engine for transforming the mode of economic growth and realizing innovation driven.
