    Wearable Material Application: Research On Flexible Solar Cells Used In Backpack Tents

    Flexible solar cells have a wide range of applications in mobile communication, vehicle mobile energy, aerospace and other fields. Chinese researchers have developed a smooth edge processing technology. The flexible monocrystalline silicon solar cell developed based on this technology is as thin as paper, 60 microns thick, and can be bent and folded like paper. This achievement was published in the international academic journal Nature on the evening of 24th Beijing time.

    Monocrystalline silicon solar cells are one of the fastest developing solar cells at present. With the advantages of long service life, complete preparation process and high conversion efficiency, they are the leading products in the photovoltaic market. "At present, the share of monocrystalline silicon solar cells in the photovoltaic market has reached more than 95%," said Di Zengfeng, co author of the paper and deputy director of Shanghai Institute of Microsystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
    At present, monocrystalline silicon solar cells are mainly used in distributed photovoltaic power stations and ground photovoltaic power stations. If they are made into flexible solar cells that can be bent, they can be widely used in buildings, backpacks, tents, cars, sailboats and even aircraft, providing light and clean energy for houses, various portable electronic and communication equipment, transportation vehicles, etc.

    At present, the scientific research team has been able to reduce the thickness of silicon wafer to 50 to 60 microns. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of flexible monocrystalline silicon solar cells produced based on this technology is basically unchanged compared with traditional solar cells.
    Di Zengfeng, Deputy Director of Shanghai Institute of Microsystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that flexible solar cells will greatly expand the application scenarios of solar photovoltaic, and will better serve the national major projects and the national "carbon peak carbon neutral" strategy.
