According to the data released by the German Federal Bureau of Statistics on the 13th, Germany's clothing imports from January to September 2023 totaled 27.8 billion euros, a decline of 14.1% compared with the same period last year.

Among them, more than half (53.3%) of Germany's clothing imports from January to September came from three countries: China was the main source country, with imports of 5.9 billion euros, accounting for 21.2% of Germany's total imports; The second is Bangladesh, with an import volume of 5.6 billion euros, accounting for 20.3%; The second is Turkey, with an import volume of 3.3 billion euros, accounting for 11.8%.

Data shows that compared with the same period last year, Germany's clothing imports from China fell by 20.7%, Bangladesh by 16.9%, and Turkey by 10.6%.

The Federal Bureau of Statistics pointed out that as early as 10 years ago, in 2013, China, Bangladesh and Turkey were the top three countries of origin of German clothing imports, accounting for 53.2%. In that year, the proportion of clothing imports from China to the total clothing imports from Germany was 29.4%, and the proportion of clothing imports from Bangladesh was 12.1%.

Data shows that Germany exported 18.6 billion euros of clothing from January to September. Compared with the same period last year, it increased by 0.3%. However, more than two-thirds of the exported garments (67.5%) are not produced in Germany, but are so-called re exports, that is, these garments are produced in other countries and exported from Germany without further processing or treatment. Germany's clothing exports are mainly sold to neighboring Poland, Switzerland and Austria.
