On December 7, the 2023 Nantong Garment Innovation and Development Conference of "Clothing in the World Makes Nantong" was opened, and more than 300 entrepreneurs and guests from Nantong garment industry attended the conference, China National Garment Association, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, Nantong Municipal Party Committee and Government, Jiangsu Provincial Garment Association Leaders attended the meeting. At the meeting, the China National Garment Association awarded Nantong the title of "Innovation and Development Base of China's Clothing during the 14th Five Year Plan".

The textile and clothing industry is the most iconic and representative industry in Nantong, which plays an indispensable role in high-quality economic and social development. Nantong's garment output value and total export volume have long been among the top three in Jiangsu Province. In 2022, the "high-end textile cluster" jointly built by Nantong, Suzhou and Wuxi was successfully rated as a national advanced manufacturing cluster, and the city's enterprises above the designated size of the garment industry achieved an operating income of more than 20 billion yuan; Thirty nine enterprises including Xinyuan Cocoon Silk, Jiangsu Sanrun, and Jiangsu Tamus were listed in the "2022 Top 100 List of China's Clothing Industry". Nantong Garments is characterized by foreign trade quality manufacturing, and has gradually formed a development model of integration of industry and trade and export processing. It is an earlier city in China to layout the central and western regions and the "Belt and Road".

After more than 40 years of hard work, the clothing industry has already become a beautiful name card and shining signboard of Nantong. At present, Nantong garment industry has emerged a number of leading enterprises with an output value of more than 1 billion yuan, backbone enterprises with an output value of 500 million yuan to 1 billion yuan, a large number of backbone enterprises with an output value of more than 100 million yuan, and many small and micro enterprises and trading companies with an output value of tens of millions yuan. A whole industry chain system with Nantong local headquarters as the main part, production capacity and market all over the world, good at foreign trade clothing production, brand processing, trade operation and basic matching of clothing accessories has been basically built.

Nowadays, the development momentum of Nantong's clothing industry has not decreased, but the pursuit of better development prospects and more diversified development modes still needs to be actively explored. "The clothing industry is a basic consumer goods industry, but it is also an innovative industry that reflects human technological progress, cultural creativity and social changes. It can also be a high-tech application industry, cultural creative industry, and urban industry." Chen Dapeng, vice president of the China Textile Industry Federation and president of the China Garment Association, suggested moving from "clothes and quilts under heaven" to "clothes under heaven", The clothing industry needs to start from three aspects: first, enterprises should have a development view, pursue more pragmatic and stable operation, and completely say goodbye to the development concept of impetuosity and chasing the wind; Secondly, enterprises should improve their comprehensive capabilities, deepen the "science and technology fashion green" attribute into operation, and accelerate the digital transformation of the industry; Finally, enterprises need to have their own value proposition, and use the business logic of "co creation, sharing, and sharing" in the digital economy era to create more products that consumers like.

The conference focused on the regional brands of Nantong garment quality manufacturing, and promoted the high-quality integration of Nantong garment industry into the international and domestic double cycle.
