Chief expert of Qingdao University, President of the Institute of Marine Fiber New Materials
Shells of shrimps and crabs, seaweed... Who would have thought that they could wear them—— This is not the future picture in the science fiction film, but the real material revolution along the Qingdao coastline. Some people did not change their minds at the beginning of the decade, and plunged the laboratory into the depths of the waves, just to uncover the code of the third fiber. He is a pioneer in the field of seaweed fiber in China, Xia Yanzhi, chief expert of Qingdao University and president of the Institute of Marine Fiber New Materials. This pioneer born into the sea is continuing to lead his team to write a brilliant chapter of Chinese textile in the blue sea and sky. In this issue, I am a weaver will lead you to an in-depth dialogue with Xia Yanzhi, a scientist who has been working with the textile industry for 46 years.
Cheyenne Cheyenne: Since 1978, I have stepped into the textile industry and experienced the growth and progress of our country's textile industry. It has witnessed the development of China's textile industry from low productivity and low technology to today's glory. It can be said that with the joint efforts of our textile workers for 40 years, China's textile industry has fully ranked among the world's top in terms of production capacity, product category and technical level.
Today's great situation cannot be separated from the progress of science and technology. After the reform and opening up, the country has introduced various technical equipment from all walks of life. We have experienced the process of digestion, absorption and re innovation. Especially in recent years, facing the challenges of global overcapacity and unsalable products, the importance of scientific and technological progress has become increasingly prominent.
In the early 1990s, I started to research and develop flame-retardant polyester, and won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. This achievement marks the successful transformation from basic innovation to industrialization. Until today, flame retardant polyester technology is still widely used in China, and a large number of related products are exported overseas, which fully reflects the power of science and technology. Since 2004, I have begun to explore new fields, and proposed to obtain fiber resources from the sea and develop the third source of textile fibers - seaweed fiber.
At that time, the whole R&D process was a breakthrough from scratch. No matter in terms of technology or equipment, there was a lack of mature precedents at home and abroad, especially fiber technology suitable for textile and clothing. Now, after years of unremitting efforts, we have realized the industrialization of this innovative fiber.
Algae fiber is inherently flame retardant, and it is a pure natural fireproof product. From the growth of marine algae to the final processing of fiber products, it is a zero carbon or even negative carbon bio based material. In the production process of seaweed fiber, there is almost no waste residue and other pollutants. Therefore, the production and application of seaweed fiber has far-reaching significance for environmental protection.
For eleven years, Xia Yanzhi led the team to weave the lonely growth of seaweed into clothes for the warm world. Now, his vision has turned to a broader future, and the third generation of seaweed fiber is "ready".
Cheyenne Cheyenne: First, our research direction and objectives must be closely combined with the strategic needs of the country; Secondly, we should continue to work on marine polymers and marine fibers. At present, we have become a global leader, a company that can provide seaweed fiber for textile clothing or spinning and weaving, and has achieved industrialization. Next, we will focus on the development of the third generation of seaweed fiber, aiming at the application in the field of national defense, aerospace, and strive to further reduce costs.
Finally, we should adhere to the research of marine bio based materials and devote ourselves to developing them into a truly industrialized large variety of fibers, contributing to the country's economic and social development.
The research team led by Xia Yanzhi has won various awards, and now has the largest annual production capacity of 1000 tons of seaweed fiber in the world. He said that these honors cannot be separated from the support of the Textile Light Foundation.
Cheyenne Cheyenne: The "Light of Textile" China Textile Federation Science and Technology Award has played a huge role in promoting the talent cultivation, encouragement and development of the entire textile industry. I hope that we textile workers can not only be confident, but also see the difficulties, hardships and hardships in the front line. We textile workers have a long way to go. The way to solve the problem in the future is still in science and technology, and we will work together to push China's textile industry to a new peak.
The seaweed stretches like silk, which is a generous gift from the sea, while Cheyenne has seen the deeper blue. The dream weaver will still take science and technology as his mission, continue to dismantle the longitude and latitude codes of the deep blue sea, and work tirelessly to create China's own "sea cotton warehouse"! ?
