Industry Data: January February Briefing On Economic Operation Of China'S Clothing Industry
In January and February, the synergy effect of China's macro policies was further strengthened, and the market demand and production supply were gradually restored, superimposed on the strong pull of the Spring Festival holiday on consumption. At the same time, the recovery of the world economy is slow, and the tariff increase policy of the United States has pushed up trade costs. The international market demand is still insufficient. In this context, clothing exports are declining, domestic sales and investment are rising steadily, production is basically stable, but corporate profitability has narrowed. At present, the external environment is becoming more complex and severe, geopolitical conflicts are intensifying, trade restrictions are constantly increasing and other unstable and uncertain factors are intertwined, and the stability and recovery of the industry economy is still facing greater pressure and challenges.
01 Production
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to February 2025, the industrial added value of enterprises above designated size in China's clothing industry increased by 1.5% year-on-year, 0.7 percentage points faster than that of the whole year of 2024. The clothing output of enterprises above designated size decreased by 1.50% year on year, with an increase rate of 5.72 percentage points lower than that of 2024.
02 Domestic sales
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to February 2025, the total retail sales of consumer goods in China will be 8373.06 billion yuan, an increase of 4.0% year on year, 0.5 percentage points faster than that in 2024. Among them, the retail sales of clothing commodities of units above the designated size totaled 194.71 billion yuan, up 2.6% year on year, 2.5 percentage points faster than that of 2024. According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to February 2025, the online retail sales of physical goods reached 1863.26 billion yuan, up 5.0% year on year. Among them, the online retail sales of clothing products decreased by 0.6% year on year, with an increase rate of 2.1 percentage points lower than that of 2024.
03 Outlet
According to Chinese customs data, from January to February 2025, China's clothing and clothing accessories exports totaled US $21.66 billion, down 6.9% year on year, with an increase rate of 7.2 percentage points lower than that of 2024.
04 Investment
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to February 2025, the actual investment in China's clothing industry increased by 18.5% year on year, 0.5 percentage points faster than that in 2024.
05 Benefits
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to February 2025, there will be 13646 enterprises above the designated size (annual main business income of 20 million yuan and above) in the clothing industry of China, achieving an operating income of 182.902 billion yuan, an increase of 3.39% year on year, 0.63 percentage points faster than that of the whole year of 2024; The total profit was 7.38 billion yuan, down 5.75% year on year, and the growth rate was 7.29 percentage points lower than that of 2024; The operating income profit margin is 4.04%, 0.87 percentage points lower than that of 2024.
