The annual output of wool is expected to remain stable next year, although the number of sheep is low, the Australian wool production forecast Committee said.

According to the forecast Committee's second forecast for the 2010-11 season, the Committee predicted that the output of shearing would reach 340 million kilograms of fat wool, similar to that of 343 million kilograms of fat wool in the 2009-10 season.
The chairman of the Australian Wool Production Forecasting Committee, Rosso, said that good season conditions in many parts of Vitoria, South Australia and Tasmania mean average shearing.

The Australian wool production forecasting committee also estimated that the number of lambs in the 2009-10 season is about 30 million 700 thousand.
At the beginning of the 2010-11 season, the number of sheep will therefore be around 70 million barrels, down from 72 million 700 thousand a year ago, and lower than the 71 million headed by the Committee in April, Mr. Pattison said.
This will mean a long and stable decline in the number of sheep.
In the 2009-10 season, the number of slaughtered sheep and lambs declined by 12%, and the number of live exports dropped by 25%.
It has been reported that the percentage of lambs will be higher in many states this spring, Mr. Pattison said.
The combination of low slaughter and high lambs will help reverse the decline in the number of sheep, although the number of sheep will not significantly affect the wool production this season, Pattison said.
In some states, better seasonal conditions and increased focus on meat and sheep may lead to an increase in wool production, the wool production forecast Commission said.
