According to Fuzhou customs statistics, in the first 2 months of 2008, Fujian exported textile and clothing (including textile yarn, fabrics and products, clothing and accessories) to US $1 billion 119 million, an increase of 6.1% over the same period last year, and the growth rate dropped 20.5 percentage points from the end of last month.

According to reports, in January, Fujian's textile and clothing exports grew rapidly, and exported 698 million US dollars in that month, an increase of 26.6% over the same period.

In February, the momentum of exports declined sharply, and exported 421 million US dollars in that month, down 16.4% compared with the same period last year.

Among them, the general trade export growth rate dropped significantly, in the first 2 months, Fujian province exports 943 million yuan of general trade and textile clothing, an increase of 5.7%, the growth rate dropped 22.6 percentage points from the end of last month.

Fuzhou customs analysis of the relevant factors, resulting in February this year, Fujian textile and clothing exports decline mainly in the following factors:

First, the cost pressures of enterprises continue to increase.

On the one hand, the RMB has accelerated appreciation since last year, and there is no doubt that there has been a sharp increase in the pressure on textile export enterprises, which are mainly settled in US dollars.

On the other hand, last year, China reduced the export tax rebates of some textile and garment and adjusted the catalogue of processing trade restrictions, making the profit margins of textile exporting enterprises further squeezed.

Two, external demand has been reduced.

With the continuous spread and deepening of the subprime mortgage crisis in the United States, consumption growth in the US is slowing down in the short term.

Three is the intensified competition in the international market.

In recent years, the textile and garment industry in India, Vietnam, Pakistan and other neighboring countries has been developing rapidly. Some textile trade orders are gradually shifting to India, Vietnam and other countries.

Four is the impact of labor shortage during the Spring Festival holiday and part of the factory labor shortage. In February, the duration of the textile factory shortened. This is also one of the reasons for the downturn of textile and clothing exports in that month.

Fuzhou customs officials suggested that the relevant enterprises should speed up the upgrading of product quality and industry level, and replace the simple price competition with product innovation and differentiated competition mode, so as to promote the development of the industry to higher technology content and independent brand.
