Russia: The Development Of Textile Industry Is An Important National Task.
Russian President Dmitri Medvedev believes that the development of Russian domestic textile industry is an important task for the country.
When Medvedev met with Ivanovo governor Mikhail Main at Moscow Kremlin, he talked about the development of the state's innovative projects.
Main says Ivanovo's innovation projects are mainly in the textile industry.
Main said: "the total output value of our 25% region comes from the textile sector, and more than 25% of the local revenue comes from the textile industry."
In response to Medvedev's question, he said there were about 50 textile enterprises in the state with a total number of 50 thousand employees.
Main said: "it is difficult for us to compete with direct competitors from China, Turkey, Pakistan and India. Together with the Ministry of economic development and trade, we have chosen the best textile industry experts in the world through competitive bidding. They suggest that we turn to the textile of man-made fibres and chemical fibers.
He added: "the main problem is that at present we rely on imported raw materials, cotton from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan."
Main stressed that the plan developed by the Ministry of economic development and trade and Ivanovo will eventually change the structure of textile products, not only for the production of household textiles, but also for industrial supplies, such as automotive interior decoration fabrics. He said Ivanovo is ready to occupy some markets.
Speaking of support from the government, mey said he needed to invest in the development of infrastructure in the textile industry and attract domestic and foreign investors. He asked Medvedev to support the construction of the textile industrial park. This large investment project will be the beginning of the new development of Ivanovo.
Medvedev said that the Russian textile industry collapsed in the 90s of last century. He said: "we must begin to move the industry towards a new high level of quality and make it competitive for the above countries."
Medvedev added: "this is an important task for the country and the place."
Ivanovo is Russia's largest textile industrial base, and Ivanovo, the capital of the state, is known as the textile city.
