Analysis And Prospect Of Sino US Textile Trade In 2008
1. US textile imports in 2007
According to statistics released by the Department of textiles and clothing trade of the US Department of Commerce (OTEXA), imports continued to grow. The following are the figures: 2007
(1) a slight increase in imports and a marked slowdown in the growth rate.
In 2007, the United States imported a total of 53 billion 100 million square meters of textiles, an increase of 1.8% over the previous year. The import value was $96 billion 400 million, an increase of 3.4% over the same period last year, and the average price of textiles increased by 1.5% over the same period last year.
Compared with the total import volume of 8.3% in 2005, the amount of 7.1%, the total import volume in 2006 and the sum of 4.6% in 2006, the growth of textile imports slowed further in 2007, indicating that the effect of the integration of textile trade in 2005 has basically been released.
In 2007, textile imports accounted for 4.9% of total imports of goods from the United States (19649 billion dollars), and textile imports increased less than the total import growth of goods trade (5.6%).
(two) imports of raw materials are decreasing, and imports of manufactured goods continue to rise.
In 2007, the United States imported 23 billion 300 million square meters of clothing, the amount of 73 billion 900 million U.S. dollars, up 3.5% and 3.2%, respectively, and imported textiles 29 billion 800 million square meters, the amount of 22 billion 500 million U.S. dollars, respectively, an increase of 0.6% and 3.9% respectively.
In textiles, imports of manufactured goods continued to grow last year. The volume and amount of imports increased by 4.5% and 6.4% respectively, and the amount and amount of yarn imports decreased by 9.8% and 9.5% compared to the same period last year. The import volume of fabrics decreased by 2.9% and the amount increased by 1.1%.
(three) from the perspective of importing countries (regions), imports from the surrounding traditional markets continued to decrease, and imports from Southeast Asia and South Asia increased slightly.
In 2007, the pattern of the US textile import market continued to undergo major changes.
Imports from neighboring countries and traditional supply countries continued to decline since 2006. The number of imports from CBI countries has declined by 2.5%, CAFTA has dropped by 2.3%, Mexico has dropped by 11.2%, Canada has dropped by 21.6%, and Turkey has decreased by 9.5%; the growth rate of imports from Southeast Asian and South Asian countries has slowed down significantly compared with 2006; some countries (regions) have seen negative growth: the number of imports from the United States has increased by 2.6%, Bangladesh has increased by 4%, Kampuchea has increased by 1.9%, Indonesia has grown 1.7%, Pakistan has dropped by 11%, South Korea has dropped 8.7%, Taiwan has dropped to 1.9%, and Thailand has declined.
The most noteworthy thing in 2007 is the growth of Vietnam's imports. Vietnam formally joined the WTO in January 2007. The United States has cancelled the import quota quota for Vietnam's textiles. The number of Vietnam's textile imports has increased by 31.3% over the whole year, and the amount has increased by 34.2%. It has jumped to become the fourth largest source of imports in the United States.
According to the amount, the top ten sources of textile imports in 2007 were: China, Mexico, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Honduras, Kampuchea and Italy. The ten sources accounted for 64% of the total textile imports.
Canada and Hongkong, which are important for many years, have withdrawn from the top ten.
(four) the trade deficit has increased slightly, and the trade deficit with China has continued to expand.
The trade deficit totaled $89 billion, an increase of 4.9% over the same period last year, accounting for 10.9% of the total trade deficit in the United States over the same period.
Among them, in 2007, the US textile and clothing deficit was 72 billion 700 million US dollars, accounting for 81.7% of the textile deficit, an increase of 3.9% over the same period last year; the textile deficit of 16 billion 200 million US dollars, accounting for 18.3% of the textile deficit, an increase of 9.5% over the same period last year.
The trade deficit from mainland China was 36 billion 700 million US dollars, an increase of 16.7% over the same period last year, accounting for 41.2% of the total deficit of US textiles.
Two. US imports of textiles from China in 2007
In November 2005, China and the United States signed bilateral textile agreements, and implemented three years of quota management for 21 kinds of textiles (according to the category of the United States in 34 categories).
2007 is the second year of the implementation of the agreement. The annual import of textiles from China is related to the following:
(1) import continues to grow rapidly and unit price has increased.
In 2007, the United States imported a total of 21 billion 400 million square meters of textiles from China, an increase of 14.8% over the same period last year. The import amount was $32 billion 300 million, an increase of 19.4% over the previous year, the first breakthrough of the 30 billion US dollar mark, and the increase in the average import price by 4%.
By volume, China's share of the US textile import market increased from 35.7% in 2006 to 40.2% in 2007, and the market share increased from 29% in 2006 to 33.5% in 2007.
(two) clothing imports have increased rapidly, and textile import growth has slowed down.
In 2007, the United States imported 8 billion square meters of clothing from China, the amount of $22 billion 700 million, an increase of 23.5% and 22.8% compared to the same period, China accounted for the United States clothing.
The import market share increased from 28.9% in 2006 to 34.4% in 2007, increasing from 25.9% in 2006 to 30.8% in 2007.
In 2007, the United States imported 13 billion 300 million square meters of textiles from China, the amount of $9 billion 600 million, an increase of 10.2% and 12% compared to the same period last year, the growth rate slowed down compared with 2006.
China's share of the US textile import market increased from 40.9% in 2006 to 44.8% in 2007, rising from 39.5% in 2007 to 42.6% in 2007.
(three) restricted category import quantity and price increase
The total import volume of the 21 varieties imported from China by the United States totaled 2 billion 290 million square meters in 2007, an increase of 350 million square meters from 2006, an increase of 18.2%. The total amount was 8 billion 240 million US dollars, an increase of 1 billion 870 million US dollars over 2006, an increase of 29.3%.
The import volume of the 16 products increased, and the imports of the 5 products decreased.
In 2007, the weighted average unit price of restricted varieties increased by 9.3%, of which 15 kinds of products increased by single price, with 7 varieties increasing by more than 10%, and 6 kinds of univalent prices declined.
(four) imports of non restricted categories increased steadily and their share declined slightly.
Due to the rapid growth of two years, the import growth of unrestricted categories in 2007 was stable, and the increase was less than the restriction category in terms of quantity and amount.
In 2007, the number of textiles imported by the United States from China to unrestricted categories reached 19 billion 100 million square meters, an increase of 14.4%, the amount of $24 billion 100 million, an increase of 16.4%; the unrestricted category occupied me.
