The textile quota agreement between China and the United States will expire at the end of 2008. Cao Xinyu, vice president of the China Textiles Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, said that the current government is leading the consultative work in this area, and there is no official cancellation of quota information.
People in the industry believe that the outcome of the United States general election will dominate the trend of future textile trade policies. Once the Democratic presidential candidate comes to power, textiles will be likely to be a victim of a severe stance by the US government on China's trade policy, and if a total of party candidates won, the attempt by the United States textile industry to limit its limits will be more difficult.
In addition to quotas, many people in the industry are worried about other means of trade protection. In December 31, 2008, the lifting of the ban on the 21 categories of textiles from China to the United States would also become uncertain. Experts believe that the second half of 2008 will become a key node to verify whether China's textile and apparel exports are "smooth sailing" in Europe and the United States.
