1200 Cotton Ginning Factories In Pakistan Went On Strike In August 1St.
The Pakistan cotton gin Association (PCGA) announced all strikes and closed 1200 ginning factories since August 1st, because they believe that the government has failed to meet their requirements or that the government has failed to fulfil its promise to the cotton industry.
The decision was made at the general meeting of Chaudhry Muhammad Akram, President of the Pakistan cotton gin Association, on Tuesday. The meeting was unanimously adopted, and the government departments and bureaucracy ignored them and failed to solve their problems.
The Pakistan cotton gin association has agreed to pay no standard fee, end the clean cotton program, simplify the release process of work permits, and remove the obstacles. They also believe that the government should take action to announce that the ginning industry will bring cotton ginning plants into the federal tax office for the purpose of promoting sales tax rebates on the Internet.
The Pakistan cotton gin association also called for the abolition of the sales tax increase to solve the problem of workers' welfare fund, and promised to provide an uninterrupted supply of electricity for 18 hours.
Muhammad Akram said: "we decided to close our cotton mill from August 1st until we accept our requirements." He said that the introduction of clean cotton program is to help specific class of cotton ginning companies, and harm the interests of other cotton mills, so we must stop the clean cotton program. The election of the Pakistan cotton mill Association will take place in March 2009, but it should be submitted to the general manager of the Trade Organization for approval. The government should not issue work permits to units other than the Pakistan cotton mill Association.
