Business Association August 14th hearing July 29th, the US House of Representatives passed a bill that decided to grant Mauritius origin exemption from textiles in the framework of AGOA in 2008 -2012. This means that textiles imported from textile products made by Mao from third countries can enter the US market without tariffs.

The case will be submitted to the US Senate in September for approval.

Sithanen, vice premier of Mao and Minister of Finance and economic development, welcomed this, saying that this is good news for the wool textile industry. "Once the bill is finally implemented, it will be the first time that Mao has enjoyed the" exemption from origin "treatment granted by the United States for more than a year in the least developed countries.

In 2005, the United States granted a "one year exemption" for wool textiles to the United States.

Since then, the government has been lobbying the United States, hoping to continue to enjoy this preferential treatment.

At present, some African countries such as Lesotho object to the US move. They believe that Mao should not get the exemption and fear that their products will be threatened by wool textiles in the US market.

Sithanen said that the government was actively consulting with the above countries and said that "African countries should be consistent on this issue".
