US Company Was Awarded $100 Million For Infringement Of Doll.
The jury of the Federal District Court in California decided on the 26 day of a doll's infringement case and asked MGA entertainment to pay a total of about 100 million dollars to MATTEL toy company.
MGA entertainment launched in 2001 the "blaze" doll, including 4 different ethnic girls. Its products were popular among American girls after its launch, and the products of supporting toys, computer games, music and film and television were exported to form a competition with Mattel Inc's best-selling "Bobbi" dolls and related products.
Because the designer of the "blaze" doll was employed in the Mattel Inc before entering the MGA entertainment company and proposed the development of the "blaze" doll during MATTEL's work, MATTEL thought that the related patents should belong to all of them. In May this year, she filed a tort suit against the MGA entertainment company to the court, and her claim was supported by the court jury.
However, the amount of compensation awarded by the jury for the amount of 100 million dollars is quite different from that of the Mattel Inc's claim of nearly $2 billion. Mattel Inc lawyers say that the profits and interests of MGA entertainment from "blaze" dolls and related products totals about $2 billion, while MGA entertainment lawyers say that the amount of compensation in the case should be around $30 million. The judge will determine the specific amount of compensation according to the jury's verdict.
